No, you are not understanding how elo system works.
When you win, you not only gain lp but mmr, your mmr dictates which players you will be matched with.
If you keep winning, you will be paired with more and more skilled players, the thing is that if you are in the top of the ranked system already you can easily get past plat and reach diamond.
When you reach diamond as a challenger player, it's still easy as your skill surpasses those who play there.
This game makes you stuck in certain divisions not only because of your skill level, but because you need to force a win streak to climb.
