It doesn't really make much of a difference, if you're prudent about cancelling long missions when you don't want to take them. The more characters we eventually acquire, the more tasks can be spread across various characters and the less you'll be waiting for the same handful to finish one task before you can start on another.
I don't expect characters like the event Hulks to ever really be much good for anything except spreading out the task load a bit, anyway.
Hopefully Starlords design is good. I want him and Rocket for sure.

I'm at a big bottleneck with most of my characters waiting for a level 3 upgrade as well as Taskmaster waiting for recruitment, so I'm dropping gold on anything that doesn't require books or mats until I have a good stock of both. Then I'll just hoard gold and raise each character up one at a time, from cheapest to most expensive, including event and premium characters.
I know there are more efficient ways to do it, but I'm not trying to race to the level cap with nothing left to do. I'd rather take the slow route and stretch out the game a bit.
For what its worth, Thursday is the day when TinyCo launches/updates events in their family guy game.

Particles don't stop dropping once you clear everything, whereas character upgrade mats only drop as many as you need to unlock your available upgrades. So once you've cleared all the rubble (or as much as you want to clear), your particles will just start to build up as you finish tasks.

I'm vaguely following the methodology of someone who tried to explain it over here, and it kind of works. You're basically forcing the game to generate a new mission that awards books but I still get heroics a lot there too so I'm not sure how much better it is than normal playing. Can't really hurt to try in any case.
I hope they update the Arena of War and Power Gym to be upgradable. They look pretty plain compared to all the other buildings on campus.

The game generates missions randomly so you will be getting heroics.
The point of this guide it to increase the chance of getting non-heroic mission that gives you materials.
You also have to remember that it only works if you have exactly one mission with specific material. And heroic missions seem to have higher chance to give you materials if you already have mission with those.
Also materials merging seems to work with books now.
