As for your question, I'll let one of the big boys sperg you a more thorough answer, but basically SO is faster paced with less RNG and much more tactical depth, and better balanced classes and factions. If you're a NavyField vet, you should feel right at home. Gunnery resembles more WoT than WoWS (SO is older than WoWS), and AA and secondary batteries are manually controlled.
Pretty much the only con in comparison to WoWS is that it runs on an old engine and therefore doesn't look as fancy.

The grind also feels less excruciating, you can get to tier 6/7 in a week with a decent grinding time and the chinks pretty much shove global XP in your face with daily/weekly rewards and events along with giving VIP matches if you do good enough in the weekly individual rankings.The real grind is about the commanders.
Gameplay wise its faster and if you're a BB/CA player you can aim in a top-down view, similar to the arty-cam in WoT. CV gameplay feels more like an RTS if you're into that, but be advised, autism is not optional when it comes to CVs.

I'm doing research of them using the T7 USN CV, currently leveling some commanders I need to make it work, but overall DBs do MASSIVE damage to modules, like a single bomb can fuck at least 4 modules in a higher tier BB.
