But that's on the last fourth of the story. I do agree that when it gets good it's probably the most interesting main story of the series, but that's in the last six hours of a game that took me a week to finish and in the end I felt like the payoff wasn't that great, although there wasn't much else they could've done with it.
I mean, just few days before I had seen the finale of 03. In comparison, Kamilla went down like a bitch.
I also didn't really care that much about most of the Zeth government or Ice Flame characters and the girl whose storyline completely dominated the first part of the game then just faded into the background.
I'd say it had very weak buildup, great peak, and then it just kind of whithered off. Maybe the post-game quests would've been good, but I wasn't about to take that grind.

She was basically depressed fucktoy for the first part of the story and out there somewhere doing important things you don't need to see for the end. While I did come to like her a bit in the first part (god help me she was the only thing that first part had) it felt like she was out as soon as the plot was in and we got basically no interactions between her serious mode and anyone else.
Most Rance games have fun characters and kind of average/passable plots (at least in the case of the newer ones/remakes), but I felt like VI was the opposite which left me dissatisfied. I found Karolia to be the best girl by the end (excluding the demons, who were just a lot of fun and the best part of that whole game) and that was mostly because I found her concept unique enough to be a mildly amusing novelty.

Obviously, she was tanking everybody's attacks with her IF and just dodging Rance's attacks. She was incapable of dealing with those attacks + Rance when her IF was down. You should also note that Kamilla is very injured and highly agitated so you were not fighting her in her top form, IIRC Alicesoft said she was at about 40% of her real power?

She was hit by Rance, with Chaos and wa taking damage even before that guy interfered,it just wasn't enough to faze her, she is strong and very resistant. But because of that she took a very direct blow from Chaos that can really damage dark lords a lot, like with Ithere or One of the angels sisters on VI.

The character interactions were fun and plentiful and I don't dislike a bit clumsy JRPGs. It's basically just Rance shenanigans which is fun and the plot is just an extension of that, but I don't mind because it manages to make me laugh often enough that I can pretend the tears are happy ones instead of something caused by the almost ungodly grind. I pity those who didn't have Magnum to ease it and may their sacrifices forever be remembered.

Character design in rance games is absolutely amazing. It's top notch. Best I ever saw in any VN. Especially in ix, since it's the last one and has an unusual setting, which benefits both character and environment desings.
Wish I had some sort of artbook, what comes with ix torrent is good, but not enough. That guy who drew all this, orion or whoever, is my hero.
