People say mushrooms are better than bats. Maybe they are if you get them early enough. They give a decent amount of energy so they can probably speed up your early game a bit by offsetting the energy cost of mining or manually watering your crops.
Right around the time I got them though I'd upgraded my tools enough that I stopped needing a full energy bar to get everything I wanted out of a day, so I've never used any of the mushrooms grown in my cave. I think I'd have preferred bats just for the chance to make a few bundles easier, but I don't think bats would help that much either.
Take mushrooms I guess. Having a stockpile of free energy might come in handy at some point.
Hopefully we get mods to put a sex dungeon in the cave instead.

The mod includes the possibility of dating & marrying Jas, as well as custom sprites for the Flower Dance.
>HOW TO INSTALL
Make a back up of your Content folder and of your savefile. Extract the rar in your game folder and overwrite everything.
The mod is working if the word "SINGLE" appears underneath Jas' name in the Social screen.
If it doesn't:
a_ Try giving a gift to Jas, talking to her or going to bed;
b_ You might have made a mistake while installing.

I updated to 1.06, and tried to add marriage dialogue & some normal dialogue. The portrait used was a bit modified by me for some of the espressions = if you use another portrait it won't work properly.
There's only ONE custom event (the 10 Hearts one), that I unfortunately had to split in two parts (one in Marnie's shop and another in the forest), so after the first part finishes you'll still be in Marnie's shop and Jas might be there.
After exiting the second part of the event should trigger.
