This whole package just reeks of effort. You don't often get a game these days where it's just obvious somebody put their all into making it as good as possible. From the designs of the characters, to the world building, to the gameplay initiatives, to the sound design; it's just overall very very good. And someone really made sure it would be.

Please, a good half of my OCs are animals/animal-based (and there are almost 100 now so that's a lot). Love drawing animals, dragons, demons, or anything of that sort that allows me to be creative. And hey, I think I have the perfect rabbit-replacement for you... I actually have a little slime-based arthropod of my own, I call an illuvia (pic is outdated but gets the job done). One of my characters even fan-girls when she seems one for the first time in person as she's sort of a bookworm, and her encyclopedia of a mind explains to the viewer what an illuvia is (which will prove significance later, as there is a gargantuan illuvia boss-like character later on.)
If you want to stick with sea snails, though, that can also work.
And I really like your second idea as well. I might end up drawing that one in addition.

This is true, but someone with a higher level is definitely going to have a lot more experience under their belt. And while I approve of the matchmaking taking player performance into consideration, it needs to be done in moderation.
Someone at level 5 who just got the game but already has considerable shooter experience from many other games, and thus is stomping all the other level 5s the game unwittingly matches him against, should NOT be matched up against level 50s right off the bat. A level 50 player is going to have greater knowledge of maps, weapons, and tactics, where even an intelligent level 5 player simply cannot hope to compete with this difference at such an early stage in his journey through the game. And this isn't even considering the gear abilities that level 50 have had a long time to figure out and learn how to use stat stacking to maximize their effectiveness with a given weapon.
It's a good system, but it's a tad bit on the stupid side and needs a bit of refinement for the next game.
