-RECENT NEWS-
>3DS
-Gateway ULTRA 3.5/3.5.1 has been released. New features include: 10.3 emunand support on original 3DS, cheats along with an in-game menu and bricking your console if it detects that you're using a DSTwo+.
-10.3 has been released. Anything that requires the NNID to be accessed doesn't work right now unless you update, that means you can't access the eShop. Exploits such as oothax and ironhax will require a new payload to work.

>WiiU
-5.2 IOSU exploit. https://twitter.com/naehrwert/status/655782468688199680
-DON'T UPDATE PAST 5.2/5.3.2/5.4 AND STAY OFFLINE. The WiiU updates automatically, so be careful.

-A Vita update got released, you might not want to update since it fixes the email exploit.

Anybody here have experience with using the fan translation patch for Fatal Frame 4? I have the Homebrew channel and Riivolution installed, and I have the patch files on the SD card. I also have a physical copy of the game. The program "Patch42 (SD Root)" shows up in the Homebrew Channel, but when I run it I get the screen in the pic. The text is:

"Everything has been found, now patching... This isn't where the music's at, I guess I'm going back down there.

Press HOME to exit."

At which point it kicks me back to the Wii menu. I can launch the game via Riivolution, but it's entirely in Japanese which doesn't do me much good.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

trust me I tried this myself, finding a n3ds below 9.6 is VERY difficult, I cycled through about 9 different models from varying gamestores, walmarts, and even private shops and had absolutely no fucking luck. I have a n3ds 10.3 sitting right here because after 9 tries I pretty much said fuck it and gave up.
>>
>>122724001
This, if you would've acted earlier this year you probably would've been able to get one, but finding any of those serial numbers are very unlikely. when I went on a hunt for mine, I couldn't even find a model that even had a serial that was on the danm list except for one, which was a 9.6 model.

I'm about to cave and buy PSMD digitally.

My 3DS is still on 9.10. Is it safe to update if I want to keep homebrew, or can I just access the eshop without updating or something. I know Smea was working on that at some point.
>>
How often do translation patches come out for JP games? How long does it usually take? I've thought about obtaining MHX, but I only know basic Japanese.

>>122724001
Did you try asking to see some of their older shit? I have a 10.3 N3DS too, anon, and your struggle is making me nervous.
>>
>>122725473
it's safe to update if you have an entry point that hasn't been patched yet.

which is cubic ninja, ironhax, oot3dhax, and smashhax(very annoying to use tethered only entry point that requires you to broadcast a signal from a self compiled version of airplay-ng on a linux distro, and even then is unstable as fuck and only works for like 1/10 people who even attempt it)

10.1 is the very last firmware to support themehax AND browserhax
>>
>>122725749
nigger I asked all the right questions I had one gamestop actually pull down every n3ds they had on stock and let me inspect all the boxes.

apparently gamestops don't keep a lot of backstock for nintendo products because nintendo tries to make them constantly cycle with shipments.

>Hey everyone,

>it's time for a new release v4.0 of loadiine. It was quite a lot of work and it includes many changes. The launching method is changed in the way that the games are loaded. We found a way of gaining kernel level execution on our own code. There is code now that runs directly from a hooked kernel function called PrepareTitle which setups the titles before launching. At this point the function is hooked by our method and the game is setup from the app.xml and cos.xml in the /code folder of the games on the SD card. If you have the correct values here, most if not all games do run in Mii Maker Mode or Smash Bros Mode. The only game, that we know of, that has an issue is Mario Kart 8, which fully works in Smash Bros Mode it seems but freezes if you exit the game to system menu and does not work at all in Mii Maker Mode. But its fully playable in Smash Bros Mode though. In fact all games that we tried with correct xml setup worked (big thanks to Cyan, n1ghty and MLT for doing so many tests).
Welp, time to abandon sub-5.2.0.
>>
>>122726356
Also what's up with this HANS thing? Can I use it to access the eshop?
>>
>>122726356
Update your ironhax payloads BEFORE you update your firmware.

Install the 10.3 payload FIRST

I can't stress this shit enough.

OOT3DHAX is a secondary exploit just like ironhax

cubicninja is the ONLY remaining primary entrypoint, so if you fuck it up you're boned.

No, read my post.

It's tethered, that means you have to do this every time you need to get into homebrew. it is the WORST method to get into ,hax and you'll be sitting there for hours even AFTER setting it up just to get it boot even once. and even THEN it'll only work 1/50 times you attempt it.

the ONLY reason anyone should ever use smashhax is if they have a second entry point they can install after getting into hax.
>>
>>122730361
I tried switching my primary OS to linux a few months ago because I got so fed up with windows that I wanted it off my system. I enjoyed it for the time I had it but it definitely has issues on its own, ESPECIALLY for gaming.

Wine is shit, and even if the game has a linux port it either runs like asshole or has other hilarious gamebreaking bugs. Now if you have a skylake or haswell series i7, you can achieve a hardware accelerated windowsvm inside of linux by using a method called pci-passthrough which basically allows the vm full access to your hardware, enabling you to play windows games on linux with no decrease in proformance, same compatibility, its neat shit.

But like I said, it requires a special setup and a lot of knowhow to setup.

Go for it man. I recommend Architect. Easy installer for regular Arch Linux.
>>
>>122731038
it'll get better though when it is finished, I imagine when it is actually done, it will likely be a simple .exe to run on your pc and press a nice clean button that initiates the exploit.

Sure it will still be tethered, but at least it wont be so inconvenient.

Smashhax exists right now only as a POC, and in my opinion shouldn't have have been added to the smealum github.io page as it implies that it is a valid finished method of entry. smashhax is in its early alpha stage if not pre-alpha stage.
>>
>>122731148
if you want gaming, stay on windows.

Arma 3 ran like anus, Chivarly ran the same but had really bad texture bugs that made the floor look like garbled gibs. It's not that linux is bad, it's just that these ports weren't really given much thought or time. Since people are ONLY doing it thanks to valve shoving steam machines in everyone's face.

Hell, even gamestop is selling steam machines.

I've been playing games exclusively on GNU/Linux for a few years now and I haven't had any major issues like you're describing. It sounds like the games you play have bad ports, or maybe there's some user-error there as well.
>>
>>122730361
No reason to run Windows on bare metal anymore. For any games and whatnot that aren't supported, you can just passthrough your GPU to a VM and get native performance. It's how my friends and I have been playing Fallout 4.

Like I said the only way I got it to work was by formating my emunand. otherwise you'll start up rxtools 3.0 and it will say "setting up" and then boot when finished, ONLY to boot into a blackscreen.

I'm someone else and I can tell you they're hard to find. Even on launch day they were in short supply. We're 9 months later now and all the original batches are long gone, and even reprints of the LE consoles that were exploitable on launch have been updated to come with at least 9.4 as standard.

>at this rate
lol
They are going to. And by the way, there's no reason to even care about it. They're past 9.2 even though there was no reason to. Some users being dumb doesn't make it worse.
The WiiU is most likely going to get 5.4/5.5, but it will happen to 9.3 and up too.

>>122738073
Formatting emunand formats your SD card. It deletes all of your file. Then it proceeds to create a partition of the SD card, called "emunand". You can access emunand using an entry point (usually the browser exploit). Being in emunand means that your 3DS is using your SD card "emunand" partition instead of the 3ds internal memory.

Formatting emunand deletes everything on your SD card: software downloaded from the eshop and its saves, dlcs and updates, photos and videos, whatever. Just copy them to your PC and restore them later.

>>122738189
It might not be good, but this year it got a lot better, and you can't say it's not better than the WiiU right now. Maybe if you compare how the two started (the 3DS having private exploits that developers aren't willing to release, while wiiu developers do) then you might have a point.
>>
>>122738189
yeah it blows my mind that nobody has found a new entry point despite having a fucking memory editor available that is fucking open source.

I mean yeah sure I get it, yada yada, but I dont see why you couldn't fucking memory edit to at least find more exploitable games.

Things that cfw have enjoyed should be completely possible like rom injections and things of that nature.

I was under the impression that CIA saves can not be restored by simply restoring the file onto the card. Maybe I'm being too overly cautious and remembering things wrong.

>sky3ds

Don't even mention that piece of shit, in order to get around any of nintendo's counter measures they'd have to release a new card.

They modified the way carts work internally so 3 of the new games wont work at all on it, it will likely never work until sky3ds makes a hardware change to the cart itself( like green button etc)

That shit right there is the very reason I bought a 2ds instead of sky3ds

psp has been dead anon, if you want to install psp cfw just download the cfw file and put it on your sd card. The psp was hacked so hardcore that even the 128bit signing encryption key was released, making homebrew able to run like it came right from sony themselves. And of course, sony can't fix that kind of vunerability since it would break every fucking retail game on the system's library and force everyone to have to redownload every title they ever bought from psn.
>>
>>122738587
>That shit right there is the very reason I bought a 2ds instead of sky3ds
And that's perfect. But if someone is dumb enough to only care about piracy, they shouldn't have a problem with Sky3DS. They're still getting most of the games.

I actually thought about that, since hans is a romhacker and apparently vcinjections and other shit have already been made possible, what if someone figures out how to replace an entire game's data with that of another game, making a really anal loader of sorts. I imagine it would be incrediably fucking slow, and you'd have to reinject every single launch, but I think it would be possible, it could even backup your saves before exiting and then reinject the saves when it injects the game on next use.

Yep but you can get them for $40-50 brand new at a store, they are almost guaranteed to be exploitable and they run all the o3ds games. Add a r4i and you have a brand new GBA/NDS/3DS console that you never have to buy games for and you paid max $70 with the r4.

If you got fuck all money, worth it.

Formatted the emunand, put the new rxtools in along with the old files. and still get the native firm error. I really am terrible with this sort of thing.
>>
>>122740523
yeah it's definitely worth it, but I've spent more time with a magnifying glass filing down exta molding on the whole fucking unit, opening it up and putting tape on the insides of the shoulder pads so that they'll actually respond without sitting super loose and having having to push it almost plastic to plastic to get it to activate, not only that, but I had to reseat the front of the whole danm model and I'm likely going to go up to my shop tommorow and print the entire case in higher quality plastic.

Depending on how far my autism goes, I might actually replace the actuators for the face buttons just so they'll be nice and clicky, but I don't know about it yet, since the replacement one I got today definitely has way better feeling buttons than the one I bricked yesterday

That's normal if you're on a older firmware because rxtools was only meant for 9.0+
Just install 10.3 onto your unlinked emunand and they'll disappear while in emunand.

You could alternatively use sysupdater through devmode under advanced options in rxtools3.0 to update your SYSnand to 9.0-9.2 and they'd also disappear on your sysnand

End of 2012, neimod (later proven to be part of the 3DS ROM release scene) posts his 3DS RAM dump hardware setup. Little while later, yellows8 and neimod post the "We hacked it!" pic, and start populating 3dbrew. No public releases nor any plans for any. No news of any flashcarts either, except the infamous Crown 3DS, developers of that post supposed evidence of loading a pirated copy of Splinter Cell 3D but talk about issues overcoming save management etc. New stops from them, they get forgotten about.
Midway through 2013, Gateway shows up with their first announcement and video evidence of loading ROMs on their cart. Originally limited to one ROM per SD card, and stuck at 4.5 and below which'd been superseded by 5.0 since March, but still got crazy support since it was the first genuine product or release of any kind.
End of 2013, megazig, naehrwert and fiercewaffle reverse engineer Gateway's launcher and fashion the exploit into a RAM dumper, first real homebrew release. naehrwert releases p3ds to let people make their own homebrews running on ARM9. A few very basic releases (pong etc.) until relys, govanify, sbJFn5r release the multi decryptor.
Public is still stuck with Gateway (and the few short lived clones) while the 3DS scene higher ups have made their own CFW in private. When it was in early beta development, careless sharing over dropbox let it leak, it passed hands in quiet for a few months, with people like st4rk posting screenshots on twitter and bragging about having DevMenu access, until Govanify stole it form ernilos by infecting him with a RAT hidden in a modified 3DSExplorer. Being a kid who barely knows how to code, he was too stupid to figure out how to actually use it, had to wait until someone passed him a step by step, then he leaked that and the 7.x key (which he'd also had given to him).
>>
>>122743565
So, first public CFW via leak, all the devs shit themselves, and half the people trying to get it to work can't because it's a buggy piece of shit, but people are cheap so they deal with it for free games. People gradually learn about how .cias work, and how to convert .3ds files, a few tools are released that are kinda hacky but still work. To save face, Gateway release their update that also enables .cia installs.
Year and a half later, GW's 9.2 update drops. Various people reverse engineer it, but no one releases a full blown CFW out of it because moralfaggotry. Roxas75, who'd been showing off his CFW (with DevMenu and .cia installs) on twitter for a good while, releases rxTools (minus sig check patch) But, shinyquagsire23 does release bootstrap, which makes use of the exploit to run ARM9 code, similar to the old p3ds, which is then taken by patois and made into brahma, which can load ARM9 code and perform a FIRM reboot, the basic building blocks for a CFW. All it took then was someone anonymously releasing the offsets for the signature check patching on pastebin, which combined with brahma made Pasta CFW. GBATemp rejoices, profi200 cries. A few months later, rxTools has been reverse engineered and the sig check patches added. Roxas cries, but eventually relents and makes it official. CakesFW gets released around the same time, also made from REing rxTools but built from the ground up rather than being a mod. A few minor developments later, and now we're here.

Wow, neat. That was a very fun read.

So is CakesFW considered better than RXTools? I'm just using RXTools 3.0 at the moment. Not even sure where to get CakesFW.
>>
>>122744051
CakesFW releases are usually posted in the GBATemp thread http://gbatemp.net/threads/release-cakesfw.391200/
If rxTools is working for you, I don't see any real reason to switch. Cakes is less bloated, better written, and developed by people who actually have half an idea how to maintain a decent code base, but lacks the crypto tools and native region free. There's the dhs branch which supports, among other things, .cia installs over LAN and RAM read/write, but it's not supported as an official release and, as it's been a while since it was updated, I'm not even sure if it'll work with the latest system updates.
>>
>>122743565
>>122743659
wow, so the entire 3ds scene pretty much all originates from a fucking leak. That's some shit.
>>
>>122744516

rxtools' region free isn't fool proof though
dlc and shit won't be recognised unless you use ntr 3.0 with the langemu plugin which allows you to make sure that dlc and shit will work as expected
as long as you don't need any of that though rx's regionfree will be satisfactory
>>
>>122743565
How did they get the CFW stuff? I mean, what did they use to choose who to share it with? How did ernilos get it? How was he involved? Didn't they consider a situation like this?
>>
>>122745556
Apart from Gateway trying to brick your 3DS there's none.
>>
>>122745785
Originally it was only shared among devs who'd proven themselves to be capable and trustworthy enough. I guess the line of thought was something like, "if you're already capable of making this yourself, you're ok to give it to". They were just sloppy with the sharing in the beginning, before switching to private git repos and such, and it just got passed to a few too many people. Case in point, ernilos got it from st4rk, who just wanted to share a cool thing with his friend. Ernilos wasn't as much of a programmer, but he was working on something with Govanify who saw the opportunity to lie to him, giving him the infected copy of 3DSExplorer, and stealing the files from him.
>Didn't they consider a situation like this?
Yeah almost certainly, but they had no way of knowing who'd got a hold of the leaked copy. By the time it leaked, it was already with a bunch of people, so it was only a matter of time before someone like Govanify decided to make it public.
>>
Guys, I don't get it, hasn't smegma released HANS code? If so, why didn't anyone got to make a clone that leaves to play games without an original as a base?

>>
>>122746293
A lot of IRC lurking, and helping to test some of the earlier stuff when there were devs working on things but not having a 4.5 3DS of their own to actually test it themselves, like with the old fiercewaffle RAM dumper. Before they got SD access working, all it did was print the hex values to the framebuffer as text, in a series of pages that it slowly flashed through. They tried a few things with recording the screen with a camera and then trying to put the video through picture-to-text software, but that barely worked, quickly realized it wasn't really feasible.

Finnaly found it ANON https://mega.nz/#!X5JSCZ4D!aEoPj-gnU-HGcr0frCQTnUFKYxEe-IFqXSVJKwzPq3U

Can I just use big blue to install all cias or do I need susUpdater?
Do I need to change anything in RX to make it compatible?
>>
I want senran kagura but all I can find are 3ds files.

Can I convert them to .cia ezpz?
>>
>>122756271

https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-installing-rxtools-custom-firmware-3ds-and-2ds.390867/

Just read all of that, yes you will have a headache by the end of it, but it will work.

also, you'll be transfering files often so I suggest you go ahead and remove the back to the 3ds before starting this so you can plug your microsd into your pc, or you can use the FTP transfer service(but it's slow as fuck)

Thanks buddy. When I upgrade to a bigger sd in the future will I have to go through the process again? Plus finding a way to get the ds exploit back.
>>
>>122758089
You'll just have to transfer the emuNAND and files to the next SD.
>>
>>122758138
Cool thank you, I scrolled down and saw the link also answered my question haha. So where the hell is this ds exploit stored then?
>>
>>122757570
Shit nigga this is dank.

Thanks senpai
>>
>>122758463
go to your ds profile :^)
>>
>>122758809
I mean how did the original owner get the exploit on if changing the microsd doesn't remove it.
>>
The 3ds flowchart in the OP needs to be updated to include browserhax for New 3DS, instead of ninjahax to launch CFW. I might go ahead and take a shot at it, but is there anything else that should be added to it? This thing is so outdated now.
Also, anyone know who made the original file? It'd be easier to track down the original file and update it rather than make another.
>>
>>122759041
What else is outdated?
>>
>>122759041
Just steal info from /r/3dshacks.

Or just steal the whole fucking thing.
>>
>>122759114
It just doesn't include a lot of the entrypoints that can be used. I already mentioned browserhax, but smashhax isn't even mentioned. While it's not reliable, I'd say it's acceptable to use to install a secondary entrypoint, and is probably easier to find than a copy of than Cubic Ninja.

I know that American cias work on European emunands, but I tried a Flipnote one and it gives me the blackscreen erro, does anyone have a working cia link?
>>
>>122756264
Did you get it working anon?

I've updated and all but I get a black screen when I boot into rxTools after the "update system" message. My emunand is bricked I guess.

It worked perfect for me, the first two boots where to a black screen. But I'm sure that's because my rxtools doesn't boot 100% of the time, I hope you have a emuNAND backup, good luck
>>
>>122761361

Luckily I do have a back up. rxTools boots fine for me, are you booting rxTools through hbl? If so, which entrypoint are you using?

Somebody on the thread had similar issues as me but fixed it booting with menuhax 2.0: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-how-to-update-emunand-on-a-new-3ds.393701/page-4#post-5775737

Which I tried, still nothing.

While we're on topic, my main motive for updating was to improve compatibility with newer games, but I don't think I fixed that at all, both chibi robo and happy home (only on 2.0 update) give me this screen looping on Rx 9.5. Any ideas?
Sorry I can't provide a better pic I'm driving

I'm in the same boat, anon. I got the MH N3DSXL, too, and it turns out mine came with 9.2. But here I am, sitting at 10.3.
>>
To those of you in the US: Have you had any luck finding an exploitable N3DSXL? If you did, what store did you go to?
>>
>>122761672
cute face

to fix your issue, you'll have to "crypto fix" games and updates
i dunno if it's possible to run newer games on 9.5 otherwise
>>
>>122762545
Umm thanks.

Shit, I feel like a sky3DS user now.
Can I crpytofix games I've downloaded as .cia's and not ripped myself?

So the 9.0 new3DS isn't mustard race anymore...
What does cracking higher firmwares for new 3DS involve? Possibly craking an impossible key we'll never get hold of
>>
What size SD does O3DS support? "Officially" it supports 32GB, but my mate uses 64GB.

I'm thinking of getting a 128GB card.
>>
>>122765547
It'll support 128GB, but you need to format it to FAT32. Use SD Card Formatter, Windows' built in formatting won't let you format FAT32 to larger than 32GB.

Pretty much.
