I have a weird thing about not wanting to play DRK because paladin and dark knight were mutually exclusive in vindictus. I get that DRK isn't evil but it's just not for me and it's staying locked forever.

I can stun tail screw but if he gets the stun off where he sucks you in beforehand it's guaranteed death pretty much, because the damage over time effect from his poison that you can't avoid will tick right after and kill you.

The goobbue is another beast altogether, because his attack where he devours you literally can NOT be avoided, it can only be survived by having a shield on like stoneskin or adlo, and you pretty much need to heal yourself immediately afterward or risk dying to an auto-attack.
I've gotten close to beating both of these assholes solo but I just can't make it happen. It seems like the times I got close to beating them have been purely out of luck due to them missing crucial attacks that would have otherwise killed me. It's so frustratingly bullshit. I don't want to duty finder these. I don't want to run them synced. I just want my dumb zodiac item.

two, the big reason, is that i don't have a regular group of people I play with. People I know and trust to be competent and have knowledge of all the content. PLD brings support to a weak team. Doing NidEX last night I know i saved a number of people from death because I could hit them with a clemency when they would get clipped by aoes. Yes, they shouldn't have gotten hit by the same mechanic time and time again but I can't control that. I can, however, play the class that still is a tank, but can save them from themselves. In random dungeons, I don't need the healer to be competent, I can just use Hallowed Ground. I couldn't even begin to tell you how many random dungeon runs would end with me using holmgang and then dying one second later because lol1hp. Now not only can I prevent my own death and keep my hp full, I can prevent a possible wipe by blasting the healer with a 8k crit. If shit goes downhill on WAR or DRK I have no control over it, I can do nothing but sit and watch as the team dies.

I should be able to solo them when I'm this overgeared and overleveled for the content. I agree it shouldn't be able to be soloed typically but there's no reason a level 50 4-man dungeon boss should have an attack that do the entire health bar of a level 60 tank.

It has a consistent, tangible bonus compared to Spell Speed and Crit. You can't plan around crit and the vast majority will be overheal. Spell Speed has highly devalued when you can plan for the majority of damage in any given encounter and begin your spells ahead of time. Both of them contribute to do DPS but a WHM DPS rotation is so mana extensive that every point of MP probably contributes more to your overall DPS than an extra 1 or 2 Stone III crits.
300 extra MP minute is a lot when the average encounter length (especially on progression) is upwards of 10+ minutes. If you can't do anything with an extra 3000 MP you're just awful.
Stick to ERPing, Balmungoid.

As I said, you didn't get higher than 9999 HP in those games, so it shouldn't exceed that amount in FFXIV. The content was designed for level 50 play and it should work with that in mind, it shouldn't be as effective against a level 50 as it is against a level 60.
Yeah, I know in the old games the effectiveness of such an attack didn't diminish no matter how high of a level you were, but you also didn't get over 10k HP.
The problem isn't even that it brings you to critical health either so much as that it does it and you immediately take damage from his poison and his auto-attack RIGHT AFTER, essentially making it an instant kill.
In the old games you'd at least have a small amount of time with ATB set to the fastest speed to recover from that. The boss wouldn't just attack you again right after the same attack before you even got a chance to do anything.

The mechanic works like this. Tank usually has the stun, dps grabs the tether, gets stunned, tank stuns the boss so it doesn't kill the party.
The best way of doing this boss is to ignore cyclone, have the healer clean up the dot and when you know he's about to stun, you stun him instead. Cyclone goes off and since theres no dots up to finish the person all good.
If the dps is good enough, just stun the fucker for his stun and for cyclone. He dies pretty fast anyways.

As much as i'd like to agree, the bosses mechanics will never, ever get changed because you can't solo them at 60. If players could clear it at the appropriate level to the dev's metrics, it wouldn't see the nerf bat. Given the boss has a %hit attack, I have no idea why you're even attempting it. You even mentioned it, the Lost city boss has devour, which is also designed to be handled by party members. There is legitimately no room to complain because the fights aren't and will never be designed to be soloed regardless of whether the option is there or not unless it's a solo instance to begin with. I had just had someone help me do Lost City and I felt bad for making them spend their time on me like that, even though I personally don't mind when I spend my time helping other people for nothing in return.

I just don't see why these two dungeons are allowed to be some exception to the rule as if they're any more important than the rest of them.
All of the other ones have dangerous mechanics that can kill you solo without handling them, but these ones are different. These ones are pretty much guaranteed to kill you solo because the only way to actually handle them is through what is essentially an exploit almost, that being having a large enough barrier effect to cheat the percentage based damage.
Maybe Gravity should do percentage based damage too since that's how it worked in the classic games and Tornado and Tail Screw are allowed to function that way against players.;^)I hope nobody thinks I'm serious about the Gravity doing percentage based damage. No, I really didn't say that at all. In fact I specifically said that these types of mechanics are fine for raid content, and they're fine for when the content is synced.
My entire point was to a level 60 in ilvl 230-240 gear, this is very outdated and trivial content. It's a 4 person dungeon which is generally considered the easy mode dungeons, and it's one that's from the previous expansion no less too. It has essentially zero relevance to someone who is caught up with the game outside of someone who collects things.
I only defended my position because people had to break out the insults and accuse me of not knowing about Final Fantasy shit.
