You really don't get it. thats the thing. Chara isn't helpless. they are not some broken waif. They where revived, perhaps by frisk, or maybe it was mutual, but either way, they live on past odds that look at any of us and go "haha, you're adorable get back in the dirt"
Chara is violent, they are very likely abused, probably neglect, they do have deep emotional problems that made them a problem child that the dreemurrs didn't know how to deal with. They probably have psychotic or manic episodes. and they probably have less empathy than regular people.
But despite the sad reason they climbed the mountain in the first place, Chara isn't weak. Chara has the soul of determination just like Frisk. and both of them are responsible for events that shaped the world around them rather than helpless to it.
you can be a tragic figure without being helpless.

If you're going to argue that the monsters getting to the surface is bad, then neutral pacifist after the Alphys date is by far the best ending. Everyone is still happy and hopeful, Asgore's death was mourned but people got over it, and everyone is still alive. And with a leader with better brains like Toriel, the monsters would likely have a better life in the underground.
It's mentioned that she's already started addressing problems in the kingdom - there was a lack of education so she had a new school built, which Undyne taught at, for example, and she actually kept an eye on what her royal scientist was doing.

I played Undertale. I got to the part when fighting Toriel, and she killed me. I got great joy for watch her face wince in pain. Then I exit out of the game and never rebooted it again, just to make her a permanent murderer and knowing the satisfaction she will kill herself in the ruins.

In a game which specifically doesn't need grinding to be played, then yeah, it's tedious and annoying and meant to be such. And you're onehitting the monsters anyway, all of the time spent just goes into actually finding them rather than actually fighting.
It's not the same as in Pokemon or whatever where leveling up and defeating shit is a natural part of the story and you should only have to take extra time to do it if you're a shitter, you have to put the story on hold while you just grind and grind. It'd be the markings of bad game design if it being a chore to do wasn't part of the point.
