Suppose I should give a heads up that it's not a Torigore fic, though I tried to leave it vague at the end how Toriel ultimately felt about him and if she could ever forgive Asgore for what he had donemostly because i'm personally still not sure either way

Look at your hand and count your fingers every so often. If you can, you're not in a dream. If something's wrong - usually your hand will seem misshapen in some way - you're dreaming, and you will become aware that you're dreaming. If you can get into a habit of doing this while conscious, eventually you'll subconsciously do it while dreaming and successfully enter a lucid dream.
Got this tip from a friend about four months ago and was able to have an (unfortunately very short) lucid dream shortly after. It worked for me.
