Yep, pretty much dead in Europe. I had to go hunting round a game store walk past an entire floor of PlayStation and XBox titles all the way to the back realise I can't see a single Nintendo title anywhere, see someone travel up these small stairs that I thought led to some store room or something but thought to myself, if I'm not supposed to go up there then somebody would stop me so I ascend and only then did I end up in Nintendoland. Haunt is an underrated ability, and really useful for defensive weapons that hold parts of the map.
Defensive play is wrongly looked down upon because most people think that you can't rely on your teammates in solo queue, and need to do everything yourself. Or at least, pick a versatile weapon that can do a little bit of everything.

Why?
Stacking is fine. The penalty is that you put all of your eggs in one basket, and miss out on other abilities.
I'd love to run Ink Res and max Swim Speed on the Octoshot, for example, but I'd miss out on Ink Recovery, Special Saver, Run speed, Bomb Range, etc.
Even on Chargers, I'd love to run Tenacity and loads of Swim Speed on the Custom E-Litre. Can't do that without losing the Damage Ups though.

In that vein they should remove the penalties on Stealth Jump and Ninja Squid as you're losing out on the ability to use other main only shoe and clothing abilities.
What we're seeing is that the diminishing returns aren't negative enough to discourage all the stacking going on like how the negative swim speed on Ninja Squid or jump speed on Stealth Jump discourages people from using that over Cold-blooded and Ink Resistance Up.
At this point it's unlikely for this to happen as it would definitely annoy their loyal players who put in all that effort to create stacked gear. And the last thing the devs would want to do would be to alienate their fans.

That entire Splatfest had both teams complaining about mirrors at some point in the day. Mainly because all the Nice players were asleep when it started. That entire thread was a mess of no one being certain until day time kicked in and things settled down. Then it was a mess again when 5 threads got created to dissipate the salt.
You see, only 4-5 hours are required to safely get to Royalty and that's leaves way more than enough time to examine the state of things. And when it comes to Japan and fest.ink they have even more information at their disposal.

It's mostly about range, you need the shot to travel far enough to set off the big pop. It's a little tricky getting the blast from the high ground shooting down but can be done. You can also do what this guy >>128107262

range blaster actually fires slower than the standard, i mained the standard custom for a good while. i like it just because you could fire fast enough to get a reliable two-burst kill, as well as jump into a fight and pop bubbler.
