I managed to install the game, but now I'm having issues patching. Gives a file acquisition error each time. I have the jap applocale as a default, for the rest I followed the guide to the letter

If a card instruction say "Ears: Face 3 in Slot 5 Medium A" should I set:
"BODY_FACE_TYPE_F" to "Face 3 Medium A" or
"BODY_FACE_TYPE_M" to "Face 3 Elf ears - Medium A"?
Setting one of them changes the other to something different so I can't set both of them.
I'm most confused about "Slot 5", I can't see that in ReiEdit.

Not sure if I understand this correctly - upon a fresh install, I can copy that entire virgin aa2 directory to somewhere else, and if I have to nuke my shit after fucking up a mod, I can just copy the directory back once I've deleted the busted one and have the base game again? (no need to reinstall and patch from the images?)

You can copy and move the extra files elsewhere. It's only if you tried to run the original install from elsewhere that you have a registry problem. If something breaks then you would just move the vanilla files into the original install folder.
