This guy does LPs. He's done LPs of DR1, DR2, and he's uploading an episode of DR:AE every day now.
He skips all the FTEs in DR1 and most of DR2, because he's playing it for the story. And then he says DR1 and DR2 have no replay value.
Now he's going thru DR:AE, fucking up a lot of Monoku-man segments, completely ignoring exploration and Hidden Kids, and progressing as fast as he can, and he says it's because the gameplay is shit anyway, and the story is the only good point of AE.
Should I be cringing at all this? Or is he right?

Some of the characters get almost no development in the story, like Ishimaru and instead get it from their free time events. They are definitely as much a part of the story or else your progress wouldn't have made them carry over in every subsequent playthrough.
Yeah, he's wrong. AE is meh, but he should at least see everything the game has to offer. It seems he just likes to rush games and hates to explore.

A supercomputer pulls a Junko on mankind, after killing majority of survivors, it started to extend its own system, to the point the point the earth looks like Death Star, the mad AI covers the entirety of world, and five poor fucks are stuck on it on some sort matrix designed by the machine.
Unless you accept the theory that AM/main villain is a machine capable of warping reality, some people do, some people dont, the plot of the game is this:
The mad supercomputer, made by humans, acts like one, and its literally running out of torture to give to the 5 victims, so it decided to play a game, where if you win, you get to die for real, the game is risky for both you and the machine.
But here is a plot twist, AM is the american supercomputer, the russian and chine counterparts are thristing for power, and aid you, by allowing you to escape the system, under the promise that one either will be the dominant AI in the world.

Hell I was spoiled "Chiaki kills Nagito" going into DR2 so I thought the entire game Chiaki was going to turn out to be bad so I enjoyed what actually happened even more.

Likable is a broad term. I don't like Mondo in the sense where I'd let him babysit my kids but I like him as a character. I like bad people like Nagito and good people like Chiaki; if the game was just one type of person it'd be boring.

Now see this is where I reverse this on you. I don't think you'd like the alternative. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Chihiro was a sacrificial lamb from the very start. His entire purpose in the game was for you to sympathize and feel bad but proud for him. He served his narrative purpose and he left. That's a much better fate than somebody like, I dunno, Yasuhiro floating around forever and staying boring the entire game.

See, this is the problem when you write a game that is supposed to have 16 unique characters, there's just not enough time for them to be in the spotlight and have some development, for better or for worse. I argue that Chihiro was very beneficial for the cast in only the few days he was around, how could that not continue to be.
