So I've been playing through AC5/AC0 again and I wanted to ask anons a question.
When you play through the campaigns, do you use more advanced aircraft to start or do you stick with more robust/modern aircraft for the missions? I've found myself progressing through missions with regular aircraft like the F-16 or F-20 until the end of the game, and then I ramp up to advanced jets like the F-22 or SU-47. I especially do this in AC0 after Excalibur, kind of like I earned a shit ton of money for it and then bought an advanced fighter.

I used everything in Zero until every plane's kill counters had the full set of Pac-Men, ghosts, and pellets. Only real limitation the early stuff has at that point is the limited ammo.
I am rather lost and fucked up in ACI. My planefu seems useless compared to other planes, and the best plane I seem to have is a MIG-1.44 -Sulejmani- that outstats my level five F/A-18F. Is this the point where I just use my MIG and hope for the best? A bit lost honestly, every room I join seems to have either super-Attackers or Fighters that just fuck everything up before I can properly get to a tgt.

You just have to tough it out until you can develop your things further and git gud. Here's my advice: memorize the maps and develop routes that will get you the sweeter targets. Not just nabbing oranges and reds, but do things like taking SAMs over tanks or AA guns, or literally anything over APCs, whenever possible. Leave the trash for the blood-hungry savages who can't control themselves when it comes to muh score. If you can't kill everything in a cluster, deny the opposition from dominating by taking the good targets, forcing them to split trash with you.
As a disclaimer, I'm not very smart, so I don't want to give the impression that I'm saying this all with full confidence that it will work, but I really do feel that it works for me, so I think it would be worth it for you to attempt doing the same, and if it doesn't work, you can adapt your strategy to work better for you.

With enough levels and a decent LACM parts it can dominate the ground,denying 4AGM/SFFS spam by getting red targets way before Doritos and such, and taking care of smaller targets along the way you'll easily score 50k+ in most missions.

Compared to an year ago or so? GODLY. Get one of the PCSX2 nightly builds and enable the "align sprite" hack under the video plugin settings. That fixes the black vertical lines in ACZ hardware mode. Software mode got optimized too so you shouldn't have problems in AC04 unless your CPU is shit.

I would honestly pay the price of a full game for an offline single-player no-fuel-system version of ACI. 90% of the complaints I've seen about the game relate to either the fuel system stopping players from playing, or other players being shits (which is spurred on by the fuel system to begin with). Not that it mattered though since by the time you get the really good planes the missiles are good only for ground targets/slow flying shit. I guess that both games did it right. In 5 all was about brotherhood, as you're growing somehow fond of sand island base, kestrel and whole cast of characters. In zero, all you have is your wingman and it plays on it, as we all know. You are mercenaries after all, when in 5 you're just a part of big war machine, of which you're starting to be a central point. 5 is almost an underdog story, while 0 makes your position already established.

AC5 has a subpar english dub for the most part and a really good japanese one.
ACZ has an amazing english dub and a mediocre japanese one.
Two missions from AC5 (the one where you sink the Scinfaxi and the one where you have to support ground forces by bombing bunkers) have a better feel of combined arms than most of AC6's missions despite the premise of AC6 being based on combined arms and having a whole nation's struggle as a theme instead of the standard "one man airforce" fare. I personally don't think it matters. Zero serves as a sort of prequel to 5, but if you play 5 first lots of the story/missions in Zero will give you "ah ha" moments.
AC5 is super cheese on the story though, so be prepared.

I never really had an interest in Ace Combat, but the trailer for the new one tickles my near-future boner.
What do I need to know before going in? I know what the gameplay is like (basically, I'm not well acquainted with the intricacies) but I know fuck all about the story. It takes place on Not-Earth where there's real planes, but fake countries and giant retarded awesome superweapons, right?

The plots usually range from "way too idealistic and one sided to be taken seriously but at least it has a good presentation" to "this shit is an insult to an abo's intelligence", if you want to get to the actually REALLY good stuff you have to play the one odd out game and get to learning japanese and read the side materials.
Gameplay is simple, it can be pretty much summed up as "one man airforce"/"your whole nation's armed forces' errand boy" versus hordes of ground targets and braindead enemy planes, also stupidly impractical superweapons.
Music is really good in practically all of the installments.

Depends on what you want. If you want arcade timekillers with absurd superweapons and shit play AC starting from AC2 (and then proceeding to 04/5/Zero/6/X, play 3JP last) and maybe throw in Secret Weapons Over Normandy and Airforce Delta. If you want something that is an hybrid between arcadeshit and a sim try Aero Elite Combat Academy and Energy Airforce/Over G fighters. If you're interested in actual simulators head over to /wgg/.
