and I've recently heard about the yokai series.
But there are already 3 generations out, and now I've no idea which one to buy.

Third game isnt out yet. As far as i know there's the first YW, YW2 with 3 versions Honke/Ganso/Shinuchi, and Busters, which is like a spin off title that plays different from the main games.
I heard the second game is a flat out improvement of the first and they're pretty much unrelated story wise. Only thing is there isnt a localization out for it yet.

Assuming you have the Japanese 3ds, if you want to befriend them all, you would want to get 1 and 2. Play 1 for a few hours (or until you beat the main game) and then make 2 your go-to game. To get the most out of YW2, get either Ganso or Honke AND get Shinuichi to max out the yo-kai you can befriend. If you're just buying for a challenge, just buy Shinuichi, it has all the bosses from previous games and bonus goodies.
The third YW game isn't out until next year, but if you're interested in spinoffs, Busters is a good one.

I'd prefer finding him in the wild. Have a Cynake in your party and hope for a wisp of either a heart or his item (platinum bar) which you can fuse with Cast. I to get MAX. The egg takes 20 days IIRC, so you could alter the clock for that. Depends on if you prefer blind luck or guaranteed results through tedium.

Downtown Springdale there's a golden egg. If you tak to one of the NPCs in Breezy hills Residence, you unlock the ability to rub egg. Do it for 20 days like the donation box to fight castelius I. Defeat him and you get Platinum bars, which if fused with Castelius I, nets you a Castelius Max.

This one is a little more obscure. In the bookstore at the marketplace you go to the bookshelves to read about donation boxes. Head to Mount Wildwood shrine and donate $1.00 (or 100 yen depending on your version) for 20 days to unlock Spenp's recolor, Almi. Defeating him will make you befriend him.

Now that I think about it, Captain Thunder is actually pretty different from Red J and Mighty Dog. He's the only one that doesn't say his name with engrish in his introduction, which is odd considering he's one of the first American Yo-kai introduced. In addition, he doesn't have an overworld form either, just jump straight into the boss fight.

There are a number of daily fights scattered around Springdale. A notable one is against Skreek. Do Mr. Bryd's quests to unlock a hidden door to fight Skreek. He hurts, but if you get by, he'll give you a lot of exp in addition to all the purifying you will do.
Awevil is a similar fight, except his soultimate does damage. You can find him in the sewers.
If you want to, you can also re-live Mckraken's boss fight by talking to Lucas at Mount Wildwood shrine.
When you're about level 50, go to Breezy hills and go to the house at the top of the map to get access to Infinite Inferno.

Remember that YW got split up good by big corps. Games are owned by Nintendo, anime is owned by Disney, and Hasbro is doing all the toys. You have to scan in gem nyan medals (toys) in the game to get access to them in the first place, so its up to Hasbro to decide when to publish it.

Yes, although the only s-rank yo-kai in there are crank-a-kai exclusives, which are a great pain to get depending on your luck.
You could try befriending snartle, but otherwise the game is very reluctant on giving you s-ranks before the end of the main story.

Yeah, it involves the mansion. I think his name is Pandanoko. You have to streetpass with people who also play Yo-kai Watch until he magically spawns. This ranges from 1 to up to almost 200 times if you have shit luck.
Pandanoko is slightly different from Noko. His inspirit grants regeneration and his ability quickens the time a wisp appears in battle.

I nickname all my yokais so I forget their real name but I'm using the skeleton girl, Pangyan, the water drop, the oni guy with the big arm, the shadow ninja and the purple fat fuck. I played for like 2 hours so far so my team isn't particularly great, I don't even know what I'm doing most of the time.

Truthfully, you should try and hold back on using the high-powered yo-kai early on in the game, lest they damage what challenge you can get from certain fights.

There's an item called the restraint belt that halfs all stats on the wielder. If you can somehow get it, maybe you could give Casanono a try, but I don;t think that item is available that early in the game.

Got this on christmas and put in quite a bit of time.
Like the game so far but can't really see it taking off properly here in the west unless the reliance on RNG is reduced in some way
It's easier to catch a full health no status effect mewtwo with regular pokeballs than it is to befriend some of the lower rank yo kai (even with optimal food and party members who boost friendship chance)
Otherwise it's pretty fun though, I really like level 5 games

while it's still frustating, it seems to be enough so that you can break down excess medals into souls/equipment. Of course it will still take some effort to befriend them.
From what I've seen, it seems stats growth may have changed greatly since the first game. A ranks at level 1 usually have 6-7 points in their stats, but second game seemed to multiply that amount by like 1.5. Did they just make the numbers bigger?
