I looked at the sydana and wasn't very impressed but I noticed all of the syndicate sydanas have "growth" effects; Loka's comes from ability use.
So I figured by the end of a mission it would be a geyser of colored water but instead it's just a strand that you cant see if you aren't standing still.

These things are the most frustrating thing in the game for me right now.
In the last sortie the ranged ones one hit you with burst fire weapons.
I was running like 20 Nightmare spy missions on Corpus tiles and since I'm invisible as Loki I can't hear shit; so I turn a corner, invis gets disabled and I get killed in under half a second if they happen to be facing me.
They also don't have a walk animation and I think they were given hoverskates just to cut corners on that. Since they don't need to wait for their bodies to turn they have vastly superior pathfinding and pursuit speed compared to anything else in the game.
Scorches and toxic ancients are the only things comparable to these (because they kill you in about a second if you try to hug one) and they get dropped in one hit.

Because DE is unsure about how to go about creating meaningful player/enemy interaction. This isn't purely their fault though - the game is centered around mass clearing in the pursuit of efficiency.
Meaningful interaction with enemies only slows down efficiency and irritates players (which is why invuln phases on bosses is so dull, especially since there usually isn't much of anything to do in the middle of them.)
DE has to choose between creating enemies that are difficult to fight and each meaningfully add something to the mob they are a part of or creating enemies that have powers that mean very little for most of the player base.
Most every enemy is just another body in the tides of enemies you plough through, but things like Combas and Nullifiers have tremendously little interaction - they're just things that bug you by slowing you down or forcing you to deal with them in a way that doesn't feel organic or by flat out just turning you off.
Personally, if DE is going full nuclear with damage 3.0 or whatever they'll call it and make the game less focused on mass clearing and more on small skirmishes they can keep creating mobs with different means to deal with them. If they don't, then they really should reconsider their design.

Nope it actually changes your color palettes so essentially you can swap between darker and lighter variants which either can be seen by players as the option doesnt effect what other players see and rather their colors alone

I think the sapping ospreys are on the same level. My team was doing spectacularly on the last sortie until one or two slipped through and casually dropped a mine somewhere in the mass of bodies.
Eventually it got to the point where the Ivara just started shitting cloak arrows all over the Excavator so we could stand there without getting mined.

I really hope they do re-evaluate how the combat is handled. I think one of my favorite enemies in the early stages of the game was the shield grineer. Without penetration mods or explosives they offer a pretty decent mechanic - either you use your movement skills to flank them and shoot them from an unprotected flank or show off your marksmanship and mailslot them.
Nullies and Combas though, they just lack any of that. The closest thing to that is the slide-attack through Nullie bubbles you can do if you're quick enough.
But hell, what I wouldn't do for this game being more about small, intense skirmishes rather than constant hordes, something akin to how the (new) XCOM's missions go at high difficulties, sneak around until you're in a good position, go loud with rapid, overwhelming force and hope you kill everything before something goes wrong or backup catches on to what's happening. It's a fun mix of action and stealth.
