There has been some bans over the years, sometimes the janitors banned and deleted all the posts of someone who happened to be the OP and the thread went to shit, but it was rare.
The last one I remember was someone asking everyone to do the Political Compass stuff and everyone did and the guy got banned for this after a while. He also has kinda ruined a project of "rebuilding" the Alpha state of the game, which ended up pretty good, considering it is fan work (the writing is still bad, though). Visual novels are shit. Most of them don't have believable characters, most development of characters and relationship is trash and/or made for weaboos that don't really talk to other real people.
There are exceptions, of course, and I don't actually believe KS is the higher quality you can find, but I doubt one would surpass the feels I felt on KS. Probably because it was made by guys with a culture closer to mine and it was my first fiction focused on romantic relationships I got in, which made the experience way more impactful.

I recently played through all five. For me in terms of the quality of the story alone:
Rin > Lilly > Emi > Hanako > Shizune
Rin's was thematically fascinating and had some really clever choices that affected the story in realistic yet extremely dramatic ways. Also features the most brutal 'neutral' ending.
Lilly's was extremely straightforward and the writing relied too much on Hisao's condition as a crutch. It was well rounded with a nice fake-out at the end and the best use of Chekov's Gun in the game. Not to mention that Lilly and Hisao's relationship actually felt natural.
Emi's had very sensible choices and a nice combination of fun and drama, but was overly angsty in parts when it didn't need to be. Her relationship with Hisao felt the most 'real'.
Hanako's had a really awkward sex scene (YMMV) and her character seemed to be all over the place towards the end. The ending also felt rushed. It would have been nice to have it go on for a little longer so that we could see that she'd actually developed as a person.
Shizune's was bloated as hell. Way too many unnecessary scenes with Shizune's brother. Her relationship with Hisao was also stilted and unnatural. One moment she's practically raping him, and another, she's not so much as kissing him for months on end.
