Way back before TDB I thinking what the Raid would be like. I thought there would be a part where you had to escape an Orge racing down a really long hallway on your sparrow. I guess that was too daunting for the raid team to design. But these maps and sparrow racing its a way to incorporate sparrows into pve activities in the game if they wish. Could add some cool chase parts in the raid or I dunno, maybe they never thought about it but its easier now.

ToC is not truly random. If it was it would be possible at this point for someone to have gone through 200 charges of it and gotten nothing. It has a numerical percentage value as to whether or not you'll get an exotic from that charge and yes, Bungie does keep continually nerfing it without putting that information in the patch notes.

There is a Crucuble quest chain that you have to complete. It branches off into multiple quests at some point because some of the objectives can and should be done at the same time.

The Hive have a vast empire covering hundreds of thousands of worlds.
The Vex might warp space and time, but they do it in ways we could if we wanted to, or at least in ways we can comprehend. The Hive warp space and time in ways not even the Vex can comprehend, let alone replicate, or counter.
The Vex are trying to write themselves into the fabric of reality, the Hive have created places where they already HAVE and can extend those places into the real world.
