He probably would have had a breakdown if it wasn't for Haurchefaunt, Tataru and the WoL. I think that's what makes the story so good. Even at his lowest point Alphinaud had people that believed in him and believed in going forwards.
Hell, you can see how deeply the journey he took in HW has affected him. The loss of two travelling companions and a good friend, he constantly thinks about and talks about the all. He didn't need the breakdown I don't think, he really wasn't mature enough for that. He needed the wake up call that would start him down the path where he could live up to those words he spoke to you in Mor Dhona, about how the WoL inspired him and how he wants to save the realm in whatever way he can.
He's dead set an amazing character and now post-HW story we get to see him get even more fleshed out and "humanized." He feels more like a close friend than any other character in a game I've spent time with. It's a credit to the writing.

Alphinaud's mistake was not recognising that he was still a relative newcomer to the scene cashing in on a lot of influence his family name got him more than anything.
When he encountered master schemers in Ul'dah he got well and truly outwitted at a game he wasn't even aware he was playing. He genuinely set out to do right, but hadn't even considered that someone would use him, important as he was with such powerful allies, as a mere pawn in some greater game.

Lolorito is even better at "the game" than Teledeadji was in terms of making everything work in his favour. He pretty much gets off scot-free because he doesn't just give himself an out, but he makes sure that every single action he performs gives himself an out and multiple options along with it.
He keeps Nanamo in a coma and not dead because in all honesty it helps him backtrack if things go awry (and they did, and it worked for him).
He lets Ilberd hang loose, which seemed intentional because if Ilberd kills Raubahn all the better, and he can quietly off Nanamo in her sleep if need be. If Ilberd fails then he still has an alive but asleep Nanamo and Raubahn isn't going to go completely ham on him.
He might be a tiny bearded little buttwipe but no one plays the game like he does.
I think Alphinaud realises that and resolves to do his personal best as opposed to leading others to do the best at his dictation. He simply is outmatched when it comes to familiarity with the territory and experience at the fuckery involved.

What FF14 does super well is makes the game world feel lived in. As in, the place would continue if you vanished. There were problems when you arrived, there are problems that persist in spite of your involvement, and when you go people will still be doing their thing with their lives and all you did was provide space for them to have their own personal struggles and drama.
Even more so, it feels lived in for a long time. Archaeology is prevalent. People are going over old ruins to learn not just about super secret powers unlocked by potent mages or technofreaks, but also culture and history.
What do you think the future patches will have to offer for the story? Especially the next expansion?
Do you think we'll aid Ala Mhigo, explore the forgotten lands of Eorzea, or we'll visit unfamiliar places overseas this time?

To be honest, it isn't hard to manage your mp and if you have a problem doing so you're doing it wrong.
It's a simple rotation where you can supplement other abilities like Pass when you need blind or even just want to throw it in.It's only really good with +3 enemies though.

Alternately you might not like the ATB system which is also fine because that's just personal preference, really. If it bugs you a lot, consider playing one of the more recent games like 10, 12 or (god forbid) one of the Lightning games. They have a much more active combat system with less waiting involved.

I liked Firelands. It was one big area where you had to clear some difficult mobs (that could drop good loot), and you chose which of the first 5 bosses you wanted to do first. To trigger one of them you have to clear enough trash, then it begins scouting the area and you could fight it anywhere you wanted.
All this on the "worst expansion ever, WoW is dying!" stage.

From what i've read SCH's don't have to do a lot of pet management, especially in lower levels so they should be helping out with the DPS when they can right?
The Faerie doesn't seem to be the quickest with the heals but they always kept me in that 60-80% zone. It seemed like the SCH was standing around a lot and was rarely below 90% mana. (Also sometimes they left the faerie behind and it despawned which caused some confusion.)

Level-sync'd DPS will almost always pull off of a non-level-sync'd tank if they know what they're doing.
This will change when you get past the earliest of levels.

Do you pull with Shield Lob then use Flash on packs before getting into your enmity combo? If that's the case, it's probably a gear issue.
This is what I usually do as a GLA:
For groups: Shield Lob > Flash 1-3 times depending on group size > rotate enmity combo
Boss: Fight or Flight just before Shield Lob (Shield Lob immediately after the buff pops to frontload aggro) > enmity combo
If you're doing things right and still losing aggro, update your weapon. It's the most important part of your enmity generation gear-wise. Until you get your enmity combo finisher and your tank stance, prepare to try as hard as you can to keep aggro from level-synched party members.
