No, for all intents and purposes, KSP should be considered still in early access state.
The game is nowhere near being able to stand on its own legs both from a gameplay perspective (career mode is definitely not ready and balanced) and a stability perspective.
There are still major bugs and memory leaks that shouldn't exist on a finished game.

Bugs and instability are still real and frequent problems, as with every product still in burd. Ask in thread for details.

Modified versions of popular mods are being included in the stock game while the game engine is being upgraded to its latest version. The next major update (1.1) is supposedly going to bring a complete overhaul of the GUI, be 64bit friendly, have a refined physics/heating/aero model and generally perform better.
An external team with heavily cat dicked experience (Flying Tiger Entertainment) is being tasked with porting the game to PS4, XboxOne and Wii U. They seem to be rushing for an imminent deadline and they are also working on a version of the game that will be obsolete in a few weeks/months.

KSP is very enjoyable at first, then it usually needs to be modded to retain some sort of longevity, but doing so may dramatically increase the instability of the game. You will be very familiar with the word "Oops!".
The Developers, Squad, have shown many times replaying to old posts the project and are trying to squeeze all the money they can with the least amount of effort and with controversial PR tactics.
The general consensus at /kspg/ is that you shouldn't purchase the game, not because the game itself is unplayable, but because most of us agree that Squad does not deserve your satches.

How do you handle the fuel requirements of hybrid jet/spaceships? A decent sized rocket engine will deplete the amount of fuel that a jet can reasonably carry around in 10 seconds. Is it hopeless without carrying around booster rockets or external fuel tanks?

I guess there will be two kind of players: those who want to shoot at each other and those who want to build a lot of shit around the solar system.
I guess the first will probably enjoy short matches (take off, kill people, quit) and could scrap time warp entirely.
The second will rely on collaboration (because if you just want to do shit alone, you don't even use multiplayer), so people will probably agree on what to do and when to time warp so everybody can be at the same point in time when needed.
The sync system in the current multiplayer mod has been working fine, I can see it implemented in a stock multiplayer mode.
There will also be people who just enjoy wrecking other people's stuff, but of course you won't build a multiplayer to make things easier for them.
Anyway, you can give people the option of setting up rules (time warp on/off, max time warp speed, allowed mods and so on) so in the end everyone will find what suits their playstyle

You did that because there were no alternatives. You don't call home your friends hoping they are there to hear the telephone, you send them a message. You don't need to see a person live or hear him on the telephone to tell him something, you send him a message or a voice message and he will see/hear it when he has the time to do so.
You weren't a better child because you used the landline to call your friends, you simply had no other way to hear them short of going to their home in person.
If all the kids use smartphone, you buy your a smartphone (and there is no need to spent that much, some basic phones can be had for way less than that and still do their job) or you don't give them anything.

I loveheavily moddedKSP. But the bugs, the memleaks, the low FPS always puts me off. I made this flying wing in FAR and RO some time ago. It was a great joy to finally get the design and control surfaces right and watch such a contraption fly after trial & error and having to learn how flying wings fly in real life.
But the game world runs at 12 FPS. It's not even that my toaster is struggling, it's the complete opposite - very low CPU and GPU usage. Of course, without any mods, it runs at 60 FPS, but with the same low resource usage.
Meanwhile, Mad Max (2015) runs at 60 FPS on medium.
Should I even have faith in 1.1?

Yes.Star Citizen is the persistent multiplayer universe. Squadron 42 is the single player open-ended campaign and universe. Both will be games of their own with tie-ins and original lore. There will be private server support and mod support.
You'll be able to grab your gear, hop-in a ship, fly, EVA, etc, all seamlessly. It will be a modern sci-fi space-sim, not DCS+Orbiter+KSP, though.
It will have Newtonian physics with certain limits for gameplay purposes. Procedural universe and orbital mechanics will be in the long term.

Kerbal Engineer Redux is a must have mod if you ask me. It just shows flight data like deltaV, precise height and other extremely useful infos.
But it's currently not up to date and shows wrong data when using jet engines.
A new update doesn't kill save files, but some mods.
But they update the game so rarely you won't really notice.
Just back up your save before updating to a newer version, in case they fuck up.

Waypoint Manager is a must, lets you place waypoints on the ground and they are visible on your compass. Makes navigating a whole lot easier.
Kerbal Alarm Clock only starts being important when you have to handle years long missions to other planets. It gives you an alarm when a ship arrives to a location so you don't miss a rendezvous with another object.
Those two are fairly vanilla and don't add any bloat to the game.
If you want to add some functionality, lots of people use Kerbal Inventory System and Kerbal Attachment System. It adds a whole inventory mechanic to your astronauts, and lets you add/remove modules from your ships and bases, essentially modifying your vehicles on the field, or building entire Moonbases. Otherwise you'd have to build an entire new vehicle just to add a small scientific instrument that you just researched.
There's the SCANsat mod which makes placing satellites and probes more meaningful. They map the terrain and create an image file from it that you can view ingame. It's fun to do and also makes navigating planets easier.
If you play career mode, there's also contract configurator and a bunch of contract packs that you can download that essentially add new missions you can do for profit or challenge. A lot of people prefer to just do their own things in a sandbox way, but if you like being given tasks those mods expand on them.

Ok guys, Project CARS is asking me to choose what car to drive for the next single player season.
It is down to:
- Renault Clio RS Cup. Slow and heavy, but very simple to setup and race, very forgiving.
- LMP3 with a Caterham prototype. Quick and light, complex machine that take time to set up properly. More difficult to drive but more rewarding.
- Formula Rookie. Slow and light. Literally no aero whatsoever, a sort of kart on suspensions. Probably boring as hell to drive and setup.
- GT3 with an undisclosed car. Fuck that, I'm not joining a team without knowing what car I'll be driving. Plus I'm using GT3s constantly on online races and I want to change at least in single player.
So it is basically down to the Clio or the LMP3. very different cars, both fun in their own way.
