Hey Weaver, other writefag who expressed interest in doing a fic about Flesh AU Group One here.

I was just wondering how much the different groups are familiar with eachother / interact with any regularity. Like in your baseline headcanon.

Like, do they have familial bonds or just general "Meet for brunch and brainstorm ways to earn extra cash" or something?

Im just figuring some stuff out for when I get this started.

adding to this
read part 2, the entertainment continues
It's nice seeing Bonnie the nervous wreck slowly making efforts (even assisted) to greet the new tenant, Mangle is appropriately unsettling, and Freddy's familiarity yet alienation makes a nice dynamic
Chica being ambiguously slutty fits very well, leaving Mike to wonder if she's flirting with him or if she's just like that
it's good stuff, and this from someone who doesn't normally even read fanfiction
looking forward to more, if more's planned

The entire complex, with all four apartments, is sort of under the same umbrella, not just neighbors by coincidence. The original idea was everyone living there has one thing in common above all else: they used to work for Jeremy Human's. Most of their troubles are a result of that employment so the residents primarily scrape by with a combination of disability, food stamps, and payouts from JH's in a legally blurry area between lawsuit settlements and "keep your mouth shut" payoffs, so the majority of them don't have to work or outright aren't capable.

They're all fairly close, I figure, both from proximity, shared tribulations, and basic camaraderie. As an example, Bonnie and AltBonnie may be siblings, or just act like it.
Visitations between apartments and get-togethers (not quite "parties") would be common. Some of them are probably closer than others: I imagine the Chicas are fairly gregarious and Jazzercise Bonnie probably loves to visit friends, while for instance FrenchFred probably keeps to himself.

I figured that was the case with both of them so that makes sense. I aimed for "as little description as possible, put this character in weird locations/obscured by things" to keep the gag going. The entire point -- at least that I gathered -- is that Mangle is an entirely alarming character and one you shouldn't let your guard down while around.

>>123709427
>>123714848

I'm really really glad I'm doing it some semblance of justice, and that's not fanwank or anything. I'd be every bit as elated to receive positive feedback even if you were just another anon like me. Thanks for taking the time to read them.

I appreciate praise and criticism alike, using both to hopefully polish my stuff and provide better content for the thread. I'm by no means a professional writer or anything but I like to dabble.

>I admit I really like how you've turned the "Chica doesn't realize Freddy's just speaking French" gag into a full-blown "nobody around even knows what France is" to the point of mystifying the Eiffel Tower

Hah! I'm glad you got a kick out of that. I love that sort of offbeat, "aside humor" kind of thing like what Valve does with TF2 (such as in the comics where the Soldier doesn't realize his teammates aren't also Americans, etc).

I'll be posting a couple more chapters in this setting and then probably rolling my sleeves up and trying one of the other apartment dynamics next with the intention of eventually tying them together. Here's a strawpoll for anyone following along that wants to vote on for the next series: http://strawpoll.me/6120998

Hey guys. Just dropping in with a preview of the next chapter of Dino Dan's letting you know it's not dead. Our writing schedule is never totally concrete but ideally we'll have this chapter out within the next few days. As always, I apologize that we couldn't get this done sooner, but the story is unfortunately at the mercy of our availability for writing together. Your stories rule, please do more soon.

If you want criticism or requests, I'd like to see more about the new residents in detail. I can tell from the way you write you're trying to not get into the whole humans VS nonhumans thing, and I understand now wanting to make that the focus of the story, choosing instead to highlight their interactions as personalities. But at the same time I think my favorite stuff so far has been things like Chica's bird shampoo. Add to the list Mike's noticing Bonnie's ears, and other personal quirks. I'd love to see more of Mike generally interacting with and being unnerved or fascinated by their animal quirks or just the foreign nature of the new setting he finds himself in, as far as his housemates are concerned. Chica's beaklessness and scars are really interesting when they come up, too, especially in how Mike reacts to them, since they're both alien to him and off a standard he's not even familiar with to start.
Which brings me to a nice segue for my next point, which is that I'd like to see Mike get a bit more into the other housemates as well. Probing about Chica's beak or whatever traumatic event turned Bonnie into a wreck would invariably lead to a discussion of Jeremy Human's, if you plan to involve that talk into the story at all. Again, I see you may not be leaning that way, so it's just a thought.

It's one of the better SoL fics I've read so far, and the characterization is good, but the dialog may be my favorite part, and good dialog is hard to find.
The whole perspective of Mike as the outsider really works great for this series and I hope you'll continue.

Okay, everyone, I'm gonna take you back to the past for a discussion about one of the aspects of FNAF that has never had a clear answer.

The Phantom Animatronics. What exactly were they? The children's spirits who came to try to frighten away and save Mystery Guard when Springtrap/Purple Guy revived? Mental projections Springtrap used to confuse and enfeeble Guard so he could more easily move in for the kill? Actual hallucinations that just happened to be accompanied by failures in the systems?

This is fantastic constructive criticism and assessment, which is exactly the kind of thing I appreciate. Thank you very much for reading and commenting.

You're right, I have been veering away from the humans-vs-nonhumans angle largely because I've been wanting to stay as close as I can to operating within the premise Weaver put forth. Truth be told, I actually wasn't at all cognizant of the Jeremy Human's angle, nor was I aware of whether or not the varying houses knew of each other. (Weaver's recent clarification helps in that regard.)

One concern I have is it starts to get into weird suspension-of-disbelief territory when you've got four separate characters named Freddy running around with four Bonnies, four Chicas, and so on -- I'd need a way to distinguish them from one another that makes sense in-universe, and honestly I'm not sure I'm clever enough of a writer to manage it in a way that doesn't come off as overly ham-fisted.

Originally, I planned to just do a few "mini-series" of short chapters in which different versions of Mike/"anon" integrate into the various scenarios and then react accordingly. If they're all connected, though, that kind of forces me to change my vector of attack.

Another thing I wasn't clear on is if "Jeremy Human's" is the AU's counterpart to Freddy Fazbear's, are humans are a mythical/fictional race? I interpreted it as "maybe" (such as Chica assuming Mike is some manner of primate who has lost his hair when he asked for a razor). Or are they just really uncommon? What motivated Mike to move into a glorified halfway house/battered furries' shelter?

I definitely plan to go further into depth with them as characters along with their bizarre quirks over the next couple of chapters, one of which should be posting tonight.

Thanks for the review. This sort of thing helps me to improve and offer a better product and I'll definitely put some of your suggestions to good use.

>I have been veering away from the humans-vs-nonhumans angle largely because I've been wanting to stay as close as I can to operating within the premise Weaver put forth.
See, that's what I mean. The entire concept of a human stranded in a non-human land, surrounded with talking animals and shit, would be a huge topic to get into, so I can understand wanting to just sorta leave that as unspoken background context and bring it up mostly in passing, rather than having to devote huge segments of your story to it. While I personally would love to see a bit more emphasis on the innate differences that get highlighted from time to time, I don't think it's necessary to get too into the core concept, simply because it'd be a huge endeavor that would detract from the meat of the fic which seems to be all about the interaction of various personalities. I can appreciate that.

You could totally write them all disconnected if you want, alternate "What-Ifs" from each other, to see the various settings

If you want to make it all one coherent setting, then rather than having to get settled into living with each of them, you could just have Mike get settled where he is, and then visit/get invited to the other apartments each in turn
...actually, what might be fun, especially since Mike's got so few possessions he's basically nomadic and the landlord seems to prefer a hands-off approach, is to have Mike get bounced from apartment to apartment. Maybe once he's finally sort of comfortable here, something comes up and there's a household emergency or they have to put up an old friend and so Mike has to get bumped to one of the other apartments for a week or so.
That way it's not a do-over or an alternate reality, but a coherent way to have him "move in" to each apartment in turn
he could spend a few days getting settled then there'd be some flimsy plot reason to jostle him to the next apartment and have to get used to a whole new cast, until he's comfortable and then something else comes up and it starts all over again

he gets to meet everyone, you don't have to write the intro each time since he's already somewhat familiar with the premise, but he gets to meet each group brand new for the first time
might be the best of both worlds

as for names, just give them all permutations/nicknames
Beanpole, Bonnie, Bon-Bon, ToyBon? That sorta thing, I mean

Also if you want an in-world explanation, you could say that, as ex-employees, they had to play certain 'roles' around the establishment
It would be akin to a surviving phone guy calling himself "Phone Guy" despite obviously having a real name
The "Chicas" aren't actually named Chica, that's just what their "role' was named in the pizzeria or whatever, and after such a traumatic stint/because of shared experiences, it sorta stuck.
>>
>>123731458
also as far as what little I'd planned out for pictures like the above, yes, humans are basically a fictional species, like anthros would be in ours, so they may be imagined, depicted, and even fetishized, but no one would expect to really see one walking around, so Chica taking him for a hairless monkey isn't unbelievable

It's funny how many people here are very loud about their sexual desires. However, I'll bet around 90% of them have never touched anyone other than themselves. Weird, ain't it?
>>
>>123738604
Speaking from experience here: A person who has had sex but isn't getting it anymore is much thirstier than a person who hasn't had sex at all.

Anon, that is the most common and entry-level observation about the chans in general ever since they came into existence.

Water is also wet, by the way.
>>
>>123738604
Not really.
They're all desperate and lonely. That's why the thread reacts so poorly whenever it's brought up that some of the OCfags are spending time and forming relationships with each other.
Most come here to forget about all that stuff in any context that isn't fictional.
>>
>>123738604
The most social OCfags who make trips to each other are the ones that make the most porn. This is fact.

I was confused by this until I realized that they're probably just not insecure about sexuality and are the most socially adjusted of all the anons and ocfags.

Only nerds are desperate. I hang out and do stuff here because it's like a private party room. The sexual stuff doesn't interest me, but the people who make and/or talk about art, stories, and voicework that they can create with FNAF do. It's also fun to just relax and hang out with all the other Anons and OCfags here, though I wouldn't be caught dead hanging out with anyone here in the world of no murderous animatronics.

I appreciate the kind words and am glad you're enjoying the story so far! That said, as much fun as these fellows are to write for, I don't want to infringe too heavily on Weaver's concepts and I still want to try writing for the other apartments as well -- so Mike's adventures with the misfits will eventually come to an end.

I think you would agree that it's better to have something that might be short and sweet instead of being milked to death, right?

>>123731806

No, I totally get where you're coming from and absolutely agree with you! It's interesting to see them interact and the compare-and-contrast factor is very interesting to me, like you brought up with Mike trying Chica's shampoo and immediately realizing that feathers and human hair are two completely different things. More than anything else, I'm a firm believer in "show don't tell" as an approach to writing. I try to lay just enough ground so that the reader has a point of reference, but I prefer to do reveals and development through dialogue if I can.

>>123732341
>>123732475

I definitely appreciate you clarifying and giving me some fresh material to work with -- I've got screencapped versions of your AU explanations open in one browser tab and half of the comics you've done for them in another to get a better feel for the characters.

I'm really digging on the idea to have Mike get transferred from apartment to apartment -- I'm a sucker for a good running gag (especially if one character picks up on what's going on and gets frustrated while everyone else just carries on obliviously).

It also helps immensely because I wouldn't have to approach each separate interpretation with the same premise so that it gets stale and boring after the fourth time Mario Nette/P. Uppetson peels out of the parking lot in his '87 golf cart.

Nicknames definitely works. I actually have an aside question about the next setting ("the wreck") which I'm going to send over your blog as an anonymous ask.

If I survived the Lewd Wars, I can survive you

My MSPaint art is bottom-of-the-barrel shitty: I use no shape makers, which helps confer that trademark shittiness, and makes me spend much more time than it's worth it on a piece of shit like this
I spent 15 long minutes making this godawful edit. Come and beat me, son.

Reposting for the late night crowd, the robotic equivalent of a mid-life crisis for Toy Bonnie!
It is really hard to find an image of Toy Bonnie from the booru where he isn't a gay, or a girl. Or in a lewd image. And when I do find one, part of me assumes it's probably still gay. And I think it's hilarious.

Enjoy. Any comments etc. etc. are appreciated as always.

Thanks, anon. Although I try to keep all my stuff connected for the most part, I do try to write in a way where someone can hopefully just jump in where ever and go nuts without feeling too confused. Continuity, but with a level of a self-contained sorta feeling. So I'm happy that you could get through it fine.

Haha, thank you! I'll try not to. I work from home so I actually tend to write a little bit here and there throughout the day rather than sitting down and dumping it all out in one session.

I find it helps me avoid writer's block by writing a little and then immediately stopping when I can't think of what to type, going and doing something else, and then coming back and finishing with a clear head.

Genuine criticism and feedback has helped which I've gotten here. In fact I've gained more from this thread than my short stint on Fanfiction.net last year when I was trying to write a FNAF1 novelization. To this day I still don't know what the hell possessed me to post my stuff there instead of here.

Believe me, I'm grimly aware, which is why I don't namefag and I try to keep my commentary limited to what I'm working on. I don't seem it, but I've been lurking /5n@f/ since September of last year (and 4chan in general for a lot longer). I went into this prepped for negative responses and shitposting.

I understand there are those who won't care for my stuff and I'm also aware of the stigma associated with writefags in the general. But writing's the one thing I know well, and if I can entertain even one or two anons then I'll consider my debt to the thread paid -- it's the least I can do after enjoying all of the art, voicework, quests, videos, comics, etc that others have contributed.

And I've seen plenty of gay Freddies. I've seen Freddies, Toy or otherwise, getting railed, and they still didn't look as gay as that.

Glad you're enjoying it! I'd originally planned on just rotating through the guards but then figured Mike sort of works as the "everyman" anyway, since canonically the other guards are basically just names on paychecks so there's not a whole lot to work with. It'd also be weird for there to be a Jeremy and a robot Jeremy especially if I work the restaurant angle in. I can't imagine that being pleasant for the other tenants.

I'm leaning towards what Weaver suggested in >>123732341 with moving Mike from scenario to scenario so that I don't have to keep redoing the same introduction with the same/different characters. Plus, all of the apartments are connected anyway, so it'll give us the opportunity to see the other characters again even if their arc ends.

>>123747452

I'd appreciate it if you would! I'm glad you're enjoying the series so far. If the dialogue's clunky or hard-to-read in spots, pointing out what doesn't make sense would help so I can tighten it up for future writings.

>>123757410

For some reason I figured Bonnie to be the kind of character who'd enjoy one of those elaborate and needlessly silly straws. I can see Chica having to come up with increasingly more "fun" ways for her to eat like a worried big sister.

I wonder if Mike isn't the most broken of them all.

Goddammit Scott
>>

Probably scrapped due to the having to render 3D overworld sprites for every character in the lead thing. Kinda glad Scott made the change, the new one looks much nicer.

They likely look fine not-blurred, and honestly I prefer the backgrounds to be out of focus so
I can concentrate on the characters and such. Not like anything important will be in the back.

>>123769326
>>123769741
Only so much he can do with the program he's using. I like the new overworld maps, gives a fun retro feeling. And the 3D maps might still be there for smaller areas.
>>
>>123769892
Yeah, I guess I shouldn't be expecting something Final Fantasy-like from just one guy. My problem is more with how the sprites are lit up and not even facing the right direction. They look kind of goofy and out of place just standing like that.

>40 characters right off the bat
>8 empty slots for secret characters

Okay, let's play the "Who Are The Secret Characters" game.

1. Nightmare Balloon Boy
2. Nightmare Mangle
3. Nightmarionne
4. Jack-O-Bonnie
5. Jack-O-Chica
6. Chipper
7. Someone from Desolate Hope
8. Phone Guy

This isn't main-series FNAF, it's a spin-off, and the enemies are robots.

Some of these chips remind me of the upgrades from The Desolate Hope so I'm hopeful that the combat will be reminiscent of that.
>>
>>123774395
Friend, the amount of "news" is very small. We now know what the character select looks like, what the overworld looks like, and the abilities screen, plus a teaser we aren't sure of the meaning of but that we are waiting patiently for. We already saw some of these screenshots in the trailer; there's not much news.

When the game comes out, there will be more discussion of it.
>>
>>123774395
fnaf is going to suck anonymous
>>
>>123774395

Get over yourself, anon.

You know as well as I do that this is one of those game series like Touhou where the meta content, fanwork, and emergent discussion that arises from it is more to focus on than discussion of the games themselves. None of the characters in the games even SPEAK let alone have anything resembling characterization (apart from a few stock sound effects used for BB).

We have a few new teasers to operate on and that's it. All non-game discussion isn't going to suddenly cease because there's a new version of Balloon Boy that throws balls and some vague menu screens.

Honestly, I hope we get plenty of callbacks to TDH with this one.

Here's hoping for cameo appearances for Coffee and the Derelicts - they all deserve it.

So none of you are capable of discussing anything about the games because it's not deep and full of words? Incapable of talking about the enemy designs, speculating about the moves whose names we see? No theories about what classes the characters are? Can't try to discuss who the eight secret characters might be? There's plenty to talk about, but you'd rather ignore it so you can titter over which OCfag is fucking which other OCfag and post gay bat robots and Friends-style roommate nonsense.
>>
>>123774816

Yes, please. I for one am excited for FNAF World -- it seems more like Scott's bread-and-butter. He's even admitted in interviews that a horror game was sort of his "saving throw" to see if he could remain in the games industry and experience any kind of success. While they've clearly sold like gangbusters based on the frankly incredible amounts of money he's given away to charities, I have to wonder what a game in his wheelhouse would feel like now that he's had a while to polish his skills.

Alright, I'll take your bait.

We've been discussing all four of the FNAF games as WELL as Scott's other works off-and-on for the last year or so. We discussed this game's enemy designs at length when the joke "Fanf werld" came out a month or so ago. If you notice, there are a couple new faces but mostly the same general concepts here.

There's really not much discussion to be milked out of an anthropomorphic slice of pizza or a party hat mounted on a spider, but if you really want us to humor you, boy, that sure is a party hat mounted on a spider! Mmm mmm! I wonder if there'll be OTHER party hats mounted on spiders with even GOOGLIER eyes? It shall forever remain a mystery!

What makes you think the characters will have rigid classes? You know that this isn't Final Fantasy Tactics, right? The chip system clearly seems to imply that they can be upgraded/downgraded to have different abilities.

Someone literally just a handful of posts above yours took a shot at what the secret characters might be.

Did you stop and consider that it's not even noon yet in most of America (on a Sunday no less, which is a notoriously slow time for this general) or are you too busy furiously jerking yourself because you think you've somehow discovered a chink in our armor and are sure that your shitpost will be the decisive blow that brings /5n@f/ to its knees?

Mmm, you've sure shown us, anon! How about you take that wisdom of yours over to /utg/ where they clearly could use a keyboard warrior of your stature?

And both of those have barely any replies, while there's a bunch of pictures of gay OC rabbits. Just admit none of you care about the games, only the fagbots you dream about fucking.

>So none of you are capable of discussing anything about the games because it's not deep and full of words?
Okay how's this
It looks like fucking garbage

The overworld screen looks like what an adult swim cartoon would have on screen for three seconds as a gag showing a fake video game one of their characters was playing, the combat system looks like a lobotomized early Final Fantasy, which isn't exactly known for its depth to begin with, and it's feeling more and more like a hollow cash grab with nothing to sustain it
More than anything it is an astoundingly hideous game and it hurts my eyes to look at
>>
I see what you're doing, but you're going about it the wrong way.
Shitposting isn't the answer. It's never the answer.
You can't harness the thread's flaw of being easily baited and always responding to shitposts for good.
It doesn't work that way.
