Who the fuck cares edition.
Life is Strange is an episodic interactive drama from DONTNOD Entertainment. Set in the Pacific Northwest in the town of Arcadia Bay, the player follows the story of Maxine Caulfield and her seemingly newfound ability to turn back time. I think there's this concept of 'If you don't like something, it wasn't created for you.' and 'I enjoyed (thing) and don't want it changing so someone else can enjoy it, because then I might enjoy it less'.
I think this is a fair way of thinking for most things that have a fanbase that enjoy the thing, and 'outsider' critics who think its shit. Like we used to get here a lot with the 'tumblr the game' shitposting.
But this is an episodic game, so it isn't a bunch of non-fan haters attacking the devs, this is a case of 'scorned fans'

Almost everyone complaining absolutely fucking loved the game and just felt let down by the finale - most had very few complaints about the first four episodes. Or at the very least, even if they did, the flaws in the finale were not a result of anything going wrong in the previous episodes, it was a self-contained mess.

I consider it my favorite game ever, I played it since it came out, and I've been the most vocal in my circle of friends about how disappointing and terrible the way that it ended is. Critiquing the game (or rather the finale I should say), especially when there is room to critique, doesn't necessarily mean that one loves it less; or that them trying to shut people with criticisms up means that they love it more than other people do.
If anything, I see a lot of the people who felt/feel scorned as some of the biggest fans because they were so invested in it. I've noticed that most people who played it in one go, and didn't wait as long because they waited until the release of ep 5 to play it, didn't have as much of a passionate reaction because they weren't invested in the game for as long as the people who played it as the episodes came out.

Well for one, it doesn't help that a big portion of the people coming here (myself included) have past emotional problems, and that all of those emotional problems (abandonment, suicide, etc.) are displayed somewhere in the story. They set up an extremely comfy setting with comfy characters, comfy music, and a comfy rekindling-turned-relationship. We spent months and months feeling like this could be our getaway, that the game would continue with this story into future seasons.

That sequence didn't tell us anything of value - it was all either known information, or raising new issues to no end (eg Max seeing a Warren as a potential sexual threat, AFTER she's committed to not/kissing him and will never see him again. It really sticks out that the most expository conversations in this ep - Jefferson and Warren - sound like they were written on the fly.

I think they set out with the final tragic choice as the first thing in mind and then tried to write a story based around that premise. They failed to come up with a logical and internally consistent way to justify Max's powers and how the storm works. Max gains powers that she apparently is not meant to use for no reason other than because the plot says she needs them to set up the finale. Never mind issues like why a random teenage girl on a planet with 7 billion people would be granted it or how she's created changes to the timeline in three points earlier than the bathroom incident.
