i just tested this again and i'm not really happy with the result. damage isn't as good as my bolt whirligig with cold gems
the main issue is that the % physical component of the flat gems is wasted (unlike with wheel). so unless you farm *excruciatingly* rare %arc/+arc gems you're going to be missing out on a big chunk of damage, like 10%.
cold gems can get 15 phys and bolt gems can get +34 from abhorrent beast so you can still get a pretty substantial amount of +flat on a percent-perfect bolt whirligig

Room on your left when you start at the lamp of Research Hall. With the balcony key you can open it and go down and you basicly get to the area where you would find emmisary boss in the main game. Go through the window there and drop down, laurence's skull is on the altar and you can hit the switch to go down to get the church cannon.

Alright, I did some testing with the Holy Moonlight Blade to see how arc damage plays a role in the weapon.
Both the transformed and untransformed were R1's, beam was the standard [uncharged] R2, timed to make sure no counter damage was happening, and repeated several times to make sure the number was consistent.
Testing was done on Cainhurst ghosts.
Gem used was a Arcane ATK UP +10.5%
Untransformed:
Without gem: 332
With gem: 333
Transformed:
Without gem: 337
With gem: 340
Beam:
Without gem:138
With gem: 171
Conclusion:
Untransformed takes very minimal damage from the build in arc
Transformed takes a little, also fairly minimal
Beam is very heavily based off arc

the typical thing you do for few arc is
1. use saws and throw molotovs a lot at the beginning
2. use the flamesprayer
3. do chalices immediately to get a cursed fire radial from the dudes with flaming weapons
after that you're gold. by the time you have a +6 fire weapon it is REALLY easy to beat the main game. the DLC might be hard but there are really good arcane gems available in the DLC, like 20% bolt radials from the lightning wizards

Speaking of gems, I've seen a bunch of people saying use flat gems after 1.07 hit even if they're slightly less than the %, how in the fuck would that even work? I'm not the greatest at math but no matter how I look at it, if I've got a 200 damage weapon there's no way a +24 atk gem will beat a +25% atk gem.
Or were they talking about purely min-max no upgrade weapons? But even then it makes no sense, at early levels when your weapon is only 60 damage, sure +20 gem would be better than +20% gem, but there's no way in hell you're getting gems that high if a 60 damage weapon is the best you can do.

Im sick and tired of all these bloodborn bosses random flailing around attacks, im tired of the random stun locks that you never expect or are ready for.
Only thing i have figured out so far is that valtar or whatever his name is, is a must for the boss fight.
I just started using him and on my 2 and 3rd try i made it to the second phase with not nearly as much trouble as the other npc.
Im really staring to wonder if from actually play test some of these bosses with normal characters and not the tanks the let people use for stage demos.

There's no benefit, nothing changes, I can understand NG+ if you want the Scythe, but even then you can Moon presence and just skip the ending, after you're done making your character, entire challenge should be just done with farming chalices, there's no point in touching the NG+ or anything beyond since it does nothing.

there's one other attack that scales off arcane, which is the transform attack from trick mode to untricked. you stab the sword into the ground and it explodes, same move ludwig does
people are shit-talking this weapon a bit too much. with 25/50 and nourishing gems i break 800 AR and fully charged projectiles hit for over 1000, which is pretty fucking great for 1 bullet.
i suspect that 50/25 STR/ARC is better but i'm pretty dubious that SKL is better

It was my first charcter and i beat the game the first time getting help except for the last 2 boss fights(gerham,moon P) and i wanted to play a souls game the proper way and solo it by myself with no help from online or npc and learn how fight the bosses properly thru trial and error.
I did it and i dropped the game afterwards.

That's just the DLC talking, you've gotten good at the game, and the DLC comes out and turns you into a little bitch and you decide the game is shit, I know, I felt the same way when Artorias of the Abyss came out for Dark Souls. But that's no reason to shun Dark Souls 3 when it looks like its gonna be great.

arcane builds are always suboptimal damage (in PvP) because they get compensated with Tools. that's kind of why Kos Parasite is so good, it's just a balls-to-the-walls great weapon for arcane
in PvE "everything is viable" but Arcane is actually really OP after the initial bumpy start, due to elemental weakness. if you treat HMB as an elemental arcane weapon that can hit for 1000 elemental damage it is pretty good

I'd suggest also getting 50 vit
you'll also want to swing your weapon a lot after investing so much damage into it, so maybe also getting 40 end is smart, too
actually, skl scaling will also help so an even more optimal build would also involve you getting 50 skl, too

I still like the game and the dlc bump the game up to a 9.5 from a 7.5 easily,but these bosses are over the top.
Ludwig has no cool down on any of his attacks and that dumb and unnecessary as fuck.
Only reason i get him to his second phase is cause i summon npc phantoms to distract him.
1v1 ludwig is damn near impossible unless you have an insanely powerful weapon with the correct gem combos.
Im using a plus 10 axe with a max damage of 460 and im still having issues with him

Orphan of Kos is really close to being a top-tier fight but it's ruined by some bits of bullshit.
I've noticed multiple times where he'll cancel stagger immediately into another attack which can be impossible to avoid. A couple of attacks have really really shitty hitboxes too and track way too hard, enough that if he uses that attack when you're close you're gonna get hit regardless.

He does have very good tracking. The one I've most noticed it on is his overhead slam. I've found that sticking to his arse generally works pretty well.

The DLC is pretty good so far, but the difficulty is all over the place. The normal enemies are piss easy. The hunter guys with the chain-whip-sword are decent to fight...about 6 hits to kill.
But then the "special" hunters take well over 50 hits. The fucker that's half werewolf with the dual claws took forever to die, and the guy with the gatling gun had over 5000 HP.
what the hell is up with the fight in the grand cathedral for the crow lady quest? that hunter is harder than any boss I've fought.
