Poor old Hannibal.
Continuing my Egypt campaign from the previous thread. Was about to attack the african tribes south of me when the Sillykids and their satrapies declared war and sent their armies to siege my Nabatean holdings. I initially lost 1 army and 2 settlements but managed to turn things around when my reinforcements from the south arrived. Currently taking the fight to the Sillykids by attacking their settlements in Syria.
So after a tedious flight home, i am back from the CA Total War modding/youtuber summit.
We saw a lot of future content, almost all all of which I'm legally bound to not tell you about.
There's a few things i can say to clear up some misconceptions.
>Historical games are certainly not dead, there are two future historical titles in the works right now
>CA loves mods and modders, but due to the nature of modern gaming, they have to specifically make modding tools, so it has to be calculated whether this is worth the time and investment of their developers rather than continuing to work on a new game. For example, campaign map tools would cost over $150,000 and about 6 months time, taking several devs away from current titles. They are in the process of deciding whether this is worth it
>Warhammer will be moddable, just not officially supported. The Database files are still there, can be opened in PFM, and tweaked all you like. GW is the reason they can't officially support it.
>Attila wasn't a flop, it actually outsold expectations. Because of this, there is much more content on the way.
>CA understand that day one DLC like Chaos is from a personal view point a bit of a douchey thing to do. But from an economic view point it must be done, it makes them so much extra money, the amount of people who buy it dwarfs the complainers by hundreds of times, it would be economically retarded to not do day one DLCs, the sales speak for themselves. From this extra cash, they are able to do so much more.
>Every major TW title outsells the last one, Rome 2 was a major success money wise and is the best selling TW yet, CA are huge now and they now have many teams working on many titles
>CA are working on physics based unit collision, with ragdolls and such. This probably won't be a thing until much later games. Contrary to popular opinion, pre warscape games collision was just simple number calculations, with a lot less variables and much simpler than post warscape games.
>>123161403
>Attila wasn't a flop, it actually outsold expectations. Because of this, there is much more content on the way.
Neat. Hoping for more playable eastern or steppe factions.
>it would be economically retarded to not do day one DLCs, the sales speak for themselves. From this extra cash, they are able to do so much more.

>>123162004
Their expectations are much less on follow up titles, nonetheless it beat their goal.
>>123161403
>im legally obligated not to say anything
>on an anonymous message board
Cool story. I wonder if they aren't wrong about the Chaos DLC though. It's easier to point to how many preorders you get, but its harder to measure how many people don't buy your game that would've otherwise, or people who buy at half off on steam when they would've been day one customers.
It's depressing if true, though. That and Rome 2 being their biggest success suggest the company is learning all the wrong lessons. Their best games might already be behind them.
>>123161403
How much were you paid for this post? Is CA hiring too?

This conflict has turned into a massive war. I'm allied with Athens, Sparta, Knossos, Rhodes, Pergamon and one of the arabian tribes. We are currently fighting another huge coalition that includes Macedon, Tylis, Ardiaei, Galatia + Sillykids and their satraps.
My Cyprus satrap is losing ground in Anatolia but on the other hand i've gained half of Syria and also driven Media, one of the sillykid satraps out from Arabia Magna. Good thing Rome is still busy dealing with Carthage and Garamantia. Wouldn't want him to get any ideas about invading my western provinces.
Bored wagekeking and coming up with ideas for next Attila campaign. Has anyone ever tried playing through as a migratory faction without settled down? Just razing towns and creating puppet states?

>>123179986
That's what Charlemagne's era was... Early middle ages. In fact 5th-10th century is classed as Early middle ages. Charlemagne lived between 8th and 9th centuries.
Islam has also begun its conquest of the middle east, north Africa, southern Europe and knocking at the gates of Byzantium after coming from the deserts of southern Arabia.. TIME TO REMOVE KEBAB.
Hopefully the Campaign map is an enhanced western Europe. Someone needs to post the data leak of factions, provinces etc.
Post yfw it's a a Total War Battles: Kingdom update.

It will be the period after Charlemagne. You will be charged with maintaining his empire from the marauding vikings and Muslims from the south.

Why is Patch 17 such a raging piece of shit?
This auto setting bullshit pisses me off. I came back to Rome 2 and it looks worse. The auto setting overwrites your manual settings and selects potato tier settings.
It needs removing.
I had no issues running this game at Extreme settings pre Patch 17 with FPS ranging from 78-120. I've just come back and it lowers everything in battles and performs worse.
Its got to the point. I cannot even be arsed fighting its that ugly. Just auto resolving battles by sending two full armies to ensure guaranteed victory.
It's basically a city builder lite now.

Seleucids have been contained in Anatolia. Their last satraps have abandoned them and they are currently under attack from all sides. RIP in peace. War is still raging in Greece between Macedon and the greek city states. No obvious winner currently in sight. Rome has succesfully removed Carthage from premises and is currently at war with no one. The former Seleucid satraps have banded together and formed their own coalition in the east. I started a war against Aksum in order to conquer the province of Aethiopia. Well, I start out with two unwalled settlements, and two armies of 5 or so units, at war with Sparta, I have a trait that decreases diplomatic relations with all hellenic factions so Athens declares war within a few turns on almost all playthroughs.
You have historical grievances with Rome and Carthage which make them likely to declare war on you, and to top it all off Syracuse hates you as well as owning one of your only trade routes, which it generally cancels within a few turns.
>>123225390

Our spy is in position to watch over the Aorsoi.
They are barbarians, but the Sarmatians have a differing style of fighting than my ancestors have passed down. So we must learn. General Hesiod disbanded two units of his most elite phalanx to make room for no less than two units of levied locals with bows, with the claim that in order to defeat this enemy we must restructure our armies to have more long-distance fighters.
I agree, but it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

>>123234313
It appears our efforts to exterminate the scythian and sarmatian raiders have been rewarded. We have found friends in the Caucasus mountains in the form of two small nation-states - Kolkhis and the Kartli.
Impressed by our power and land, we were able to secure massively advantageous treaties of non-aggression and trade, with each nation paying us a modest sum of 2,000 denars for our trouble.
(Now, I'm going to look for a cloud removal mod, be right back)
>>123234989
While my Caucasian alliance appears to have been the right choice, I can't help but wonder if inheriting Armenia as an enemy is going to be worth it later on.
Only time will tell, but for all of our sakes, especially the sake of a civilized Bosporus, let us hope Kolkhis keeps them at bay.
The Kartli certainly seem to be near-death.
>>123236459
Our valiant allies (or atleast I assume so, I never met the bastards), the Kartli, have been minced by the Hayasdan under the command of Tigranes himself.
Perhaps the raiders saw weakness, or perhaps they had an unknown love for the late nation-state, but regardless the Aorsoi have declared war and prepare to march on Mtskheta, which has the lovely benefit of leaving their settlement, Samandar, lightly defended.
In addition, armies are now in place and next season will be ready to march on the Royal Scythians to the North.
After the declaration of war, Hesiod, who recently swapped garrisons with Appolonios as is standard in our armies, will march from Tanais towards Gerrhos.
Perseus lays in wait on the road to our capital, Pantikapaion, prepared to ambush any potential attackers with the hope of catching their army unaware. After Hesiod engages the siege of Gerrhos, Perseus will lead his army west to reach Olbia, where he will be joined by our navy under the command of Artemisios in a joint effort to crush the steppe nomads once and for all.
May we go with Ares' blessing.

Pyrrhos is also remembered for being a tactical genius and truly forward-thinking, but he wasn't quite savvy enough, more like superhuman enough, to save a society that had no chance in a Roman world. It's a very interesting story about hubris, politics, and inevitability.

Your momI'm sorryno I'm not
>>123247327
Been playing it solo and with friends since yesterday.
While I've managed to enjoy it, the gameplay is a heavily watered down form of real Total War.
>No exhaustion
>Limited controls and management of units (no groupings, lack of expected RTS controls, cant shape formations how outside of an incredibly limited window)
>Camera zoom severely limited to relatively close in and the widest view.
Since this game really should have just been called 'World of Rome' a la WoT it has balancing decisions that throw regular Total War gameplay out the window, case in point with ranged units being twice as powerful as they would be to be equally valuable as any infantry unit.
It's something I'll play for a while as a novelty and then drop it in short order. Is Total War Arena shit? Yes.

Oh. Well, fuck.
So it's Charlemagne. I got to play it a bit at the modding summit.
It focuses on western Europe because it's all about Charlemagne
The map is huge, it's as big as the grand campaign map in terms of scale.
You can form Kingdoms if you unite enough provinces.
You can no longer change your factions religion, along the lines of it being weird if Charlemagne suddenly converts to Islam etc
They've improved how trading works, something about if your province borders a trading partners province you get even more income
Campaign goals are a lot different from the usual conquer everything
Agents are reworked somehow
There's more but we're not meant to say more than that until they reveal it, then i can talk about it.

I don't know what that means, individuals have individual animations like in every total war.
>>123268197
All those assets look great. Mechanics sound awesome. I was hoping against hope we'd get a Imperator Augustus style map but it's not terrible and we get more detail with that scope.

>>123269725
Why wouldn't vikings be playable in the middle of the viking age?
>>123269570
Oh and theres a new mechanic called war weariness, the longer your faction is at war the more negative public order you get
>>123268197
So is this the FOTS of Attila?
>>123269570
20 controllable units. Other reinforcements are held back at the map boundary like the older games.
It's still only 1 county. You won't be able to start as the others.

7:30, when the Wyvern hits the troops, they all draw swords and whirl around to face it, all in unison. Looks silly.

New Units
Age of Charlemagne includes all new units to better reflect the advancing warfare of the period, characterised by more heavily armed and armoured infantry and an increasing prevalence of cavalry of all categories, especially the emergence of knights in the Norman style for the first time. With over 300 new units, you will have the opportunity to recruit iconic military forces of the period, such as Thegns, Fyrd Axemen, Scola Knights, Berber Jinetes, Gazehounds and the feared Seax-armed Saxon warriors.
Unique Kingdom and Story Events Each playable faction has a unique set of challenging ‘Kingdom’ requirements to meet for the dedicated and shrewd player. Once achieved, you will be able to declare a new Kingdom name for your faction, reflecting or altering history in your wake. In addition, each faction will receive tailored narrative Story Events, offering you distinct challenges and dilemmas as your Campaign unfolds. Historically-inspired, some choices will lead you further to that faction’s original destiny, or you may choose to carve a new path of your own.
>>123269824
>war weariness
No more 'TOTAL War' then.
>Conditional War: Atilla
>>123269824
> War Weariness The sign of a great true king is in knowing how far your people can be pushed. Wars are significant and dramatic events between kingdoms, and should not be undertaken lightly. The fewer wars you wage the better your people will respond, as frequent and drawn out conflict will rapidly damage morale and your armies’ integrity. A shrewd ruler will seek to bring peace quickly and decisively.

Miura (the author) is old and tired, so he very rarely releases new numbers of Berserk nowadays, even though the story is not over. And Berserk itself is old as fuck now. The boat is infamous because once they got on it, Miura really started to take his sweet time between releases, so it's been 7 years since they got in it. And there's not even that many chapters between it, it's actually a pretty small arc, it's just how fucking long it's taken to get off the boat. When people say they were expecting Miura to die of old age before they got off from it they actually meant it seriously.

>Total War: Yes, the map is focused on Western Europe, as the focus is on Charlemagne and the world around him. Having this kind of focus allows us to make a map that is in effect the same size as the Grand Campaign map but zoomed in on a smaller area so we can depict it in far more detail. We didn't want to have a campaign pack about Charlemagne and have the various Saxon tribes have only a single province to their name, Charlemagne fought them on and off for thirty years. You're going to see a good amount of variety in this campaign between the different factions and cultures you will encounter, and there's a lot of content in it.

Not really. It's more like
>Get invited by the Tarantines to fight Rome
>After 1 good victory and 1 bad victory (the battle of Asculum) expect Rome to surrender
>They don't
>Get invited to Sicily to throw out the Carthaginians
>Go there and beat them; they hide in their fortresses
>Instead of consolidating, plan an invasion of Africa
>Before plan comes to fruition, get invited to fight Rome again
>Lose battle, head home to Epirus
>Start a war with Sparta; they dig a moat. Turns out taking Sparta is harder than you'd think
>Omens are against him, so might as well take some other city to the north.
>The fight for the city turns into a huge chaotic brawl with people getting moshed to death by soldiers and elephants.
>During the brawl, Pyrrhus gets non-fatally hit by a spear, decides to take out the motherfucker who threw it
>The guy's mother has been watching from the top of a roof, throws a brick knocking Pyrrhus unconscious
>His head is taken as a trophy
So basically, it's the story of genius in warfare, failure in everything else. Also, I find it interesting that when he lost 3000 troops or so at the battle of Asculum it was a disaster, but when the Romans lost more then 50.000 men at Cannae, they kept going

Celts get a bunch of unique buildings where you have to fulfill conditions to be able to build them (e.g. heroic victory to build great hall or whatever, I haven't played Sandpeople so I don't know if they get stuff like that too) and (of course) their own unites
The unique thing about the Celts is that the units are rather poor stat-wise, but you can deploy them all over and fuck people over in night battles

I wanna start a Rome campaign on R2, but I am unsure wether to play vanilla or DeI. Which one is mostt fun? Pros and cons? I'm fine with either, just want to hear some opinions and hear the major differences when it comes to gameplay and campaign aside from the most obvious differences (units, unit cards etc.).
Honestly the whole thing looks pretty good right now but I am kind of sad there are only 8 playable factions who are probably the historical big bois, I enjoy small nations and building an empire that never existed. :(
>>123279458
DeI is almost entirely better, except the game is much longer. A possible flaw is that morale works so slowly that it's too easy to set up hammeranvils, but you can speed it up with submods.
>>123278816
That shit looks literally the same though
>>123279458

Though the mods has significantly improved in that regard as of late. Vanilla unmodded is actually fun now, but submods can always fine tune the experience.

It does, but it's at an economic loss, meaning they should charge more for economic profit, but they don't because it still gives them a sizable financial profit, and it shows support for the min product, hopefully encouraging continued sales.

It's called custom battles anon.
>>123281027
I know this is difficult without a trip but as i said way above i was at their studios and they told us why they have the DLC policy that they do. The answer is, it's all about money. It makes them a lot of money. They still have a huge demand for Rome 2 DLC as well and may go back to do that. There's also another DLC planned for Attila after this one but we weren't told what it would be other than that it's a culture pack.
>>123281224
It's called Customs Battles.
Okay important question

Yeah, and there's one that disables squalor as well, because all of that is just bullshit! You should also check out the mod that makes all the difficulties play like Easy, that way you can beat the game on Legendary!

>Prince of Macedon
I train every day with my Kopis. I forged it myself, all steel imported to the Philippines from legendary Macedonian blacksmiths. I mixed the molten concoction with my own true Greek blood and prayers to Ares so that the sword could slice through a thousand persians. I've folded the steel a thousand times, to be sure it never shatters.
Every morning and evening I wrestle with my Megas Alexandros αγαπούν μαξιλάρι in the naked oiled style of true macedonian legends. I weep at the oppressive laws of my country, as my training could be perfected if they allowed the importation of catamites of Greek Blood to my home. Even with this hindrance I may soon feel worthy to wield my sarissa and kopis with pride. I am planning a boat trip to Macedonia itself (now called FYROM, obviously a Greek word meaning strength and glory) so that I may learn from the true legends themselves, even I may be nothing compared to those who toll the same soil the glorious Alexander once stepped on, but I must prevail.
ευτυχισμένο το σφυροkόπημα, my friends.
>>123289208
No he wasn't shy, he seems a very normal normie type.
There was also a guy called LegendofTotalWar there, he spent about 20 minutes just laying into the CA designers about how shitty the building system is and how restrictive the province system is, how there needs to be a population system etc. He's a big fan of the older games. The designers did seem to take note of his points and were nodding a lot so i think it's good and we may see improvements in future games, but also they seemed resistant to some changes and offered reasons why X cant be done. Which i think is stupid, they're not modders, they have all the games code, they can do basically anything.
>>123278621

Medieval 3 has a better selection to avoid recolored knights if done right. You've got the different fighting emphasizes and appearances of Iberia (Infantry more important, light cavalry and light infantry, knights late to if ever adopting couched lance), Britain (mid game longbow reforms reflecting the azzizes that stipulated training with it and how mid-late armies would be mostly Billmen and longbowmen), Scots having a mix of contemporary tactics lowlanders and almost barbarian era highlanders, Germans and French being the vanilla baseline, Hungarians having a mix of balkan infantry with various arms & steppe-y cavalry and knights, Novgorod strong in infantry and Kiev Rus in cavalry, Kingdom of Sicily being a marriage of Lombard and Normans and Sicilo-Muslim light infantry and cavalry, North Italy almost being hoplite-esque in an emphasis on spearmen of the line.

I'm a member of one of the oldest "blue blood" families in Europe anon. The original Castilians. With a family tree dating back to the 8th century AD. I care deeply for my ancestors, my religion and my people even if many have turned into godless degenerates. If the old Kingdoms were still around I'd be third in line to the throne of Castille. But alas I was born a few centuries too late for such esteemed and majestic heights of human power.
All male members of my family are brought up that way to remember our kin. We all serve in the military as officers whereas the females are in the business side of things as women are not meant for masculine pursuits.
We have properties all over Spain,Portugal,France,Italy,Swtizerland, Germany and England which includes eleven castles and six whole towns. Rented out mostly when not in use for various nations heritage trusts for tourism. Foreign Governments even pay us on a quarterly basis to use our extensive land plots. When my father dies I would inherit hundreds of millions of Euro's and that's without the assets in the vaults in Geneva or quarterly incomes. I intend to use it for a good cause.
Ever since I graduated from the academy. I haven't got the time to play video games but I do still like to discuss the Total War series from time to time(once a week or so) which has been a favourite of mine since I was a boy likely due to the talented modding scene and historical accuracy that comes with that.
Unfortunately most people seem to shitpost rather than have real discussions. Which is why I mostly just lurk rather than post these days. Most of my posting time is in /his/ now.

Maybe swap Papal States for Byzantines? What else could be wrong with it?
>>123316167
No Kebab and no byzantines are the most glaring absences. The Emirate of Cordoba is a shoe-in for a faction. They become the great Umayyad power and a major foe of Charlemagne and his successors. There's no reason to have the Papal States - their italian units are already covered by the Lombards, they have 1 unique unit, their role is to beg Charlemagne to come save them.
1) Charlemagne
2) Wessex or some English faction
3) Kingdom of the Danes
4) Emirate of Cordoba - importance, unique position & units, steam page reference to recruiting Berber Jinetes.
5) Picts or Irish - covers celtic units, might be the 'gazehounds' mentioned on steam page. http://www.honga.net/totalwar/attila/unit.php?l=en&v=attila&f=att_fact_separatist_celtic&u=att_cel_gazehounds & 33 units in leak.
6) Continental Saxons - way too many units to not be playable. They mention on the steam page recruiting iconic military forces of the period such as..."seax-armed saxon warriors"
7) Avars for unique playstyle, nomad specific tech, possible coverage of slav and avar units.
Limited number of Byz units and no byz specific tech makes me wonder if they'll actually be playable. Could split up the avars and slavs. If Asturia taps into the char_gen units then their number of unique guys could justify being playable.
I don't see the Spanish being playable. They have 10 cha_spa units and no naval units. In the leak the celts have 33 units, slav have 14, avar about 17, byzantine about 17, vikings have 22, saxons have 24, Muslim have 25, lombard have 27, Franks have 26, English have 19.

Paganism gets way better variety but Judaism is just sheer overwhelming brute force which doesn't need variety.
>>123319160
Not the same guy, but i like the Jews. Their unique infantry is extremely durable and heavy and pairs great with a fuckton of camels. Their religious buildings are also great, they cost only food and give research rate.

The public order still makes me laugh
>>123319192
Workin on it. Lakhmids will be saved for next release when I tackle Sassy sassies. I'm placing the Tanu and Himyar units and getting the ball rolling on assigning stats and all that. Game plan is still to make sure the two Himyarite units I nix (cata camel lancers & cata camel swords) will be available in a mini-mod released in conjunction and said mini mod will in the future have more of those anachronistic units when I have the time to go back and re-add them in (like Hetairea Guard, Byz Pikes, heavy longbeard berserkers).
>>123318040
I dunno, but their historical importance & the number of cha_sax units suggest they will be playable. My guess is the continental saxons will have more of that barbar edge while the Anglo-Saxons will be more civilized and Christian.

I'm not sure when I'll be able to port/do stuff for Charlemagne but the added bonus of already working on berbers and arabs will make it easy to segway to the Umayyads along with some of the new assets they've added. Some of the historical references support some more classical looking arabs (the fancy voluminous turbans and not just a little bandana with bare head or qalansuwa cap, and big comfy p a j a m m i e s) come into use.
Pre Turk Kebab are great fun and don't nearly get as much time to shine as they should.
Roma Surrectum II keeps crashing on starting a new campaign, please send help
why are siege battles so fuckig broken in Rome 1?
I've just lost a entire unit trying to get in a wall tower
Hey /twg/, what are the best mods for Rome 2 and Attila?
>>123327278
Do you like roleplaying with specific legions?
>>123327278
Rome 2 DEI, Attila doesn't really need modding except for some minor stuff according to your tastes. Some good stuff is in the works though.
>>123327381
Sort of. I mostly like the campaigning and conquering aspect.
>>123327554
Well there's a mod that lets you build specific legions

I included the fucking announcement in the Saxon Genocide edition, I just misplaced it under the Warhammer section.
Pretty fucking easy to see though, and you lose your right to make a Charlemagne edition if you don't even include Charlemagne in the OP pic.
