How in the hell can you call using bugs and exploits as "skills" in a game? PSO2 is the worst game in the Phantasy Star series. Why can't you play the game it was intended to be? I played with a few of my friends who only played the same freaking class! PSO2 becomes a boring game as you see almost every MPA has the same guys playing Br/Gu Br/Ra and Fo with the same pay2win affixes killing everything in one hit before you can even get close. The biggest obstacle for Ship 2 gaijins really isn't the affixing system, it's the hoops you have to jump through for AC and premium
You don't have to bother with the affix system at all yourself if you have the passes to just buy them outright, at least for your units
Japan doesn't have this problem, while I don't doubt there are holdouts that refuse to ever pay for anything, most will surely casually throw a few bucks into premium every now and then to stock up on them so it's no bother at all

However, you can craft Saiki for PP and boost the total bonus to 55 PP, doing the same for Brisa only yields 35 PP, and 20 PP is much more tangible difference. Basically, it depends on whether you're crafting them or not. If you're not crafting them it's really a toss up.

zero's got it's ups and downs. some of the pso1-like stuff is a bit much, and some of the pso1-like stuff isn't enough. and then there's the part where they decided to make melee and shooting into "elements" so they wouldn't lose out to techs in terms of having enemies they're strong against... but they coded the game in a way where basically only the largest weakness modifier actually counts. so in the end even a FO______ has to switch to hitting things because the last bosses are weak to melee more than anything else. at least they made it so that rods/wands/slicers calculated melee damage off the same stat as tech damage, so you wouldn't be totally screwed at the end for not being a whatever/male/hunter with a big sword.
major points for not making fonewearls look like retarded jesters though. seriously fuck PSO1 newman fashion. there may be a running theme of rabbits to PSzero newman clothes, but at least they're stylish.
