You should be upgrading your gear constantly. There should be anew ore or material every few levels that you can use to craft better stuff.
There's a room early on full of fire mages behind a barrier that you need to get past. Eat some icecream and use a ruby brooch to get some fire resistance.
Traps should be avoided because they always take a huge chunk of your health.

It looks to me that it's banking on nostalgia from past HM/SoS games, with its graphics and premise. Marriage candidates are either edgy or stale, like some words were put together to make that character appear unique, and not much else. I think it also borrows some elements from Rune Factory as well, with its cave crawling and monster fighting.
I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and see how it will go. The game's apparently still in development.

The devs are passionate about the franchise, but they are burnt out to the point that they don't really actually play the game; which, combined with Bethesda-tier QA, lets in some really obvious bugs that might get fixed this week, or might not get fixed for years. Also, fags mad at other games by them will DDOS the servers, which are at one location for all games, so RF 5 will get shut down too.
But you will have full character customization, and there will be some good mechanics and stories under all the bugs, so you will eat it up.

Well, it WAS made by a salaryman who pretty much said as much.Though I think rather than the sex he wanted the "true love" and "honesty" parts to be key elements, with the sexual stuff being a result and culmination of it.
As for location, we've always heard of the Sechs Empire (which is as large as Norad where most of the other games sans Tides take place in) and have had some glimpses of how their society functions, but we've only really SEEN a small part of the northernmost border.
The sheer landmass of Sechs allows for just about any type of location to be used for RF5.

It turns out the people who used to translate his encyclopedia years ago were intentionally changing a lot of it to be incredibly dark (when the source material is only dark in a different, more subtle way). Needless to say, he eventually found out (he can somewhat into english) and requested that they stop because they were butchering his intent. They replied to the request by sending him death threats, guro pictures of his monster girls and the like. Since that time (approximately 2010 - 2012) the translation of the encyclopedia has moved to different and more capable hands. If I remember right, he elaborated on the intent of his works through those communications and in some of the pages of the MGE books themselves.

ANB is really slow and flawed. It gets better later on after the tutorial is over and you've learned to horde everything that you find, but you shouldn't force yourself through it.
The sequel, Story of Seasons, fixed problems that people had with ANB, but it's still really similar to ANB.

Tutorial is the whole first month. It's garbage, but gets way better after that. If you have access to SoS just get that, the girls aren't worth it. Though if you're into dudes the guys might be - they aren't completely otome characters, though they are more fujobait (I'm pretty sure most, if not all, of the dudes are gay before FeMC comes and straightens them out.

I don't think there are any in any of the games. The closest you can get is in RF4 where you can create a female character and then after you beat Act 2 you can change your character model to the opposite sex.
I think there's a few traps/reverse traps in some of the later Harvest Moons too.
