Someone on Blizzardwatch brought up the point that if the Old Gods are a threat to the Legion, how could the legion have possibly created a set of armor(Lich Kings armor) that could withstand the whispers of the old gods. The LK even builds a citadel made entirely of Yogg'saron's "blood". So what if, like the LK, they wanted to make sure we were the best of the best. They see that having free will is beneficial to an extent, having free will has allowed us to conquer numerous threats to Azeroth.
