Anyone have less 'funny' stories about monsters?
I actually grew up around some. Most kids my age ended up being separated because of how the schools were segregated at first, but I ended up in kind of a special case, a little 100-person elementary in rural Washington. When I was 9, I had a couple monster friends-- you can call them A and B? This wasn't a long time after they were released from Ebott, so it was still new to me, and I was being a little bit conditioned to think 'these are something to be afraid of'. So I had friends, but they scared me a little, y'know?
So we were having a history class, and I guess the teacher wanted to be a little progressive, 'cause he was talking about the Monster War, trying to be as open and friendly as possible. A was in the class, B wasn't. People are talking a lot about the meaning of 'fighting with your emotions', and... I dunno, tension gets really high when that's the subject, or at least it did when kids didn't know how powerful they could be. I was one of those kids. I blurted out in the middle of class and said something, uh... some kind of joke about using magic? The kind of thing that came out as way more hurtful than I meant. A starts getting really mad at me, this tall kid, looked like a raspberry with four arms. I don't get what he's saying until he's halfway through trying to hit me.

The teacher realizes what's happening, tries to bring the situation down, but it's too late. A swings at me, I back up a little and push him into his desk. I guess I was actually angry or something, 'cause it was like the room had just heard a gunshot. They all went silent. A started crying, wailing, screaming as loud as he could. I'd hurt him... really bad. I hurt his soul. I didn't get what that meant at the time.
I got suspended and lost pretty much all my friends except B. He was probably the smallest kid there, and everyone treated him like shit, even if they were monsters, too. I think he stuck with me because he didn't have anyone else. He came over to my house and just kind of... limped in. It was a bad atmosphere, 'cause I knew I had fucked up, to this level that nothing could really fix, but we chatted anyway. B was somebody that taught me a lot about... I dunno, controlling emotions and violent thoughts, no matter how calm or tame they seemed. We talked a while, and then my parents got nervous that a monster was in the house and sent him back home.
It's been a while. A eventually forgave me, but... things never really felt fixed. B's stuck with me the whole way, though, so I'm a lot less of a douchebag around monsters. Can't even start to think about what would have happened if I actually dusted A.
