So story on this, the EZ and I are both level 30 and we were queueing with a group consisting of a level 21 (mundo), 20 (WW) and a 10 (Sona).
The whole time mundo and ww would just run into the team and try to box nasus and tahm then complain about being killed. Now, this might be hard to grasp, but if you die, you have 4 seconds of casting if you want to use your ult. That really isn't enough to do good. The passive is just there so anyone trying to dive you can get killed for his effort.
Any good katrhus is going to tell you that passive is just the icing on the cake, it isn't something you build around, especially concidering half the cast can just mobility away from you.

Probably only works on alistar since you can go full damage and still be able to peel and survive with your ulti. Its only normals but it was a total try hard game. Fun though.

I don't even play Karthus but I know that when he dies you have enough time from 3/4q's and ult depending on cdr. Not to mention his aoe bullshit that zones the entire time. His passive is by far the strongest part of the champion. Kathus' at my Elo just go in and suicide and it's impossible to lose a teamfight.
