Hey guys, I'm thinking of buying either Hearts R or Zestiria but I'm hesitating and I've heard complaints for both. I like Eternia, Symphonia, Legendia, Abyss, Vesperia and Xillia, but didn't like Graces and Xillia 2. In Graces I hated the battle system (The camera behind the player and the way artes worked) and thought the dialogues were silly (Tough I still liked the characters) and in Xillia 2 I didn't like the chapter format, all the reused content and the battle system (I think it reached a point where there was too much unnecessary mechanics). There's not really a point of no return, though once you seethe place where Mikleo was sacrificed as a babythat means you're right outside the final boss' room. There are warp portals that can take you all the way back to the entrance of the Mabinogio Ruins, or you can just use the final save point to travel anywhere you want.

After you get the letter from the pastor in Pendrago, you can only continue the sub-event to track down Meyvin after clearing all spiritual trials. That's when you can freely walk on the Grand Camelot Bridge.
A merchant should be there who will tell you to go to some ruins located near the Wind Trial. Warp there ASAP because the cut off for that is after a certain fight with a certain powerful enemy just outside the Earth temple.
Once you pass that, Meyvin will no longer be in the temple and will park his ass in Lohgrin.
Don't know of any other cutoffs other than the Cowboy Hat early in the game (sell the pipe to Rose; never sell Alisha's dagger or give it to the guard)

I think Dezel died because what he did was to save Rose, he was cutting off her connection with the hellion. Heldalf died pretty quickly after the Seraphim entered him, so I guess that was the difference? Maybe if Rose had died with the hellion Dezel would have been okay.

When Sorey defeated Heldalf, Maotelus needed a new vessel so the land could be purified. The purification process took hundreds of years, the grave you see there is Rose' grave who died already of old age, the timeskip was probably around 80-90 years which is why Mikleo still looks young because seraphim ages slow.
Now since Mikleo looks a lot older in the final cutscene, it is implied that over 700 years have passed.

I think Sorey/Mikleo's vast knowledge of history could have come from others in Elysia in part (since the Celestial Records are only one man's writings). On the other hand, they spent their lives exploring those ruins and Zenrus never told them about the giant statue... though maybe he just thought it was amusing.

Xillia's attachment system was great, especially once I found out you could move them everywhere on the character and increase size and change colour. What are some cool modifications you made?
I don't have any pics, but personally I loved giving Rowen the drippy nose attachment and change it to blood red, making him look permanently anime-aroused. Also, the bushy eyebrows, when rotated just right and moved down to just above Alvin's lips made them look like a great sleazy porn moustache.

I don't think unhappy endings are really a new thing for Tales. Abyss's ending was pretty depressing.World's going to run out of magic in the few years/decades, all the god generals are dead, Ion's dead, Asch's dead. The idea of Lusch is pretty depressing too if you buy into that interpretation.

I was expecting the end to be Sorey losing his ability to see the Serephs and living with humans in the end. The game hints at this happening a few times but ironically the opposite happens.

I don't remember anything hinting at that apart from the general "Gramps figured Sorey would go out into the world eventually" and the one time his resonance got disrupted. Now, on the other hand, they bring up the idea ofhumans being reborn as seraphimseveral times -- funnily enough, Mikleo, being the youngest of the seraphim in the party, asks about it a few times.

What happens?
>>121064278Ratatosk starts getting cranky and anxious over the party's ability to complete his goal (which IS ultimately for the benefit of the world) and eventually goes so far as to start threatening that if any of them fuck up or get in his way he'll kill them. Emil, with help from Verius, considers this a last straw and forcefully takes over their body, locking Ratatosk into the backseat position.
Later on, he starts to think that the only way to actually save things is to be reverted to core form (a sort of temporary "death"/sleep state as a jewel) and used as a seal to keep evil at bay, because he's afraid of Ratatosk eventually taking over again and being a shit. But he realizes that no one will agree to letting him sacrifice himself that way, so he plans to more or less trick everyone. When the time comes he pretends that Ratatosk has taken control of the body and forces Lloyd and Marta to fight him, hoping that they'll deliver the "killing" blow and seal them both away while thinking it was necessary.
The "bad end" comes in that he actually DOES end up badly hurting Marta and realizes he's betrayed EVERYONE's trust (and, ultimately, screwed Ratatosk over by not giving him a chance at all), so he ends up stabbing himself and sealing himself away.
(the better endings involve everyone realizing his ruse and telling him that trust is the better way, and him deciding that it's not fair to just shut Ratatosk away so instead he makes the effort and they come to terms with each other)

This is a little thing that always bothered me in Vesperia. Just before the cutscene where Yurikills Cumore, you get the Blue Dragon sword for Yuri which you naturally equip because it's stronger and has great skills. But that cutscene looks terrible because the Blue Dragon is this huge, wide, ugly sword that looks really out of place for that scene. In recent playthroughs I equip Yuri with a slimmer, pointier sword just to get more satisfaction out of that scene.

Innocence did a fun thing with the 'old man' trope. Ricardo's only 27, but the rest of the party being younger teens constantly look to him for support even though he really isn't much more mature than the rest of them. There's a great skit when they first get the airship and everyone just assumes Ricardo knows how to pilot it because hes the adult, when in reality he has no more knowledge on the subject than the rest of them.
