So I've been playing MGS1 physical copy on PS3, the version with VR missions added on, and I think the Psycho Mantis fight is bjorked.
Changing slots doesn't actually register the controller as changing from P1 to P2. I think if I had a second controller I could trick it by registering both, but the friend whose PS3 I'm playing on does not have 2 controllers.

How far into the development were they when GZ was released?
The game had tighter level design, and more creative thought put into the missions than anything in TPP.
The only major complains I had with that were the horrendous in-door camera which seems to be designed to give you the most cinematic feel possible, and in turn completely fucks you over in tight quarters.
As well as the regenerative health, and the psychic guards and CP.

I never got the whole "traverse difficult terrain" thing.
Their center of gravity is much higher, so they are less stable. Any miscalculation or mistake in the walkers footing and the whole thing comes crashing to the ground.
Not only that, but since the vehicles weight is distributed across a much smaller surface, it would easily get bogged down in mud, and it couldn't walk on anything remotely unstable (like shale/loose rock mountain sides, which is exactly the rough terrain they apparently excel at) without said terrain giving way.
Then again, this is Kojimbo we are talking about. The rule of cool prevails here, and that's why Raiden can throw Metal Gear RAYs around like ragdolls.
