I usually stick around the middle "column" of the room in case myself and a melee on the side I'm assigned to gets Earthshakers. That way, I can go to the opposite side with ease. I have less issues with placing the puddles while strafing in lock-on, but sometimes I forget to reapply my DoTs before they fall off making a decent line without getting caught by sludge.

For definite Sword Oath use, yeah. Squeezing in raw potency is more impactful than the DTR (ability damage) you get from zodiac spread.
In the end the gains are so negligible (less than a percent in favor of dreadwyrm (~0.7%)) that it doesn't really matter and should you ever move into Shield Oath that low delay benefit is tossed out, making zeta superior.

Ironworks is technically BiS going from pure stat weights but no one likes it because of its skill speed. Demon chest is considered the absolute bis, also cheapest to obtain. Fully melded is good, but expensive for obvious reasons. It's not absolute bis because the absolute bish requires numerous crafted pieces that work in conjunction to get the bare minimum of accuracy needed + Flint caviar to hit the acc cap for turns.
In terms of individual crafted item value, the chest is pretty high up there because of its high accuracy allowing you to equip better accessories. The hat + ring are also good pieces to make individually.

Right now, melding the gear isn't worth it unless you have already had said melded gear from months prior. But leveling all of them to 50 and at least getting the HQ AF is worth it, since the AF sets themselves are cheap, anyway. There's no reason to go out and focus on melding Artisan gear this close to Heavensward, unless you really look forward to converting all of the gear to materia and more often than not failing to make back the costs (the gear or materials, plus materia you'd be melding and blowing up thanks to RNG)
Not to mention, if you don't already have them all at 50, the expense of melding is adding onto the expense of actually leveling them. The latter is easy to make back quickly, just upon hitting 50 in whichever craft you leveled (WVR might be a bit more of a pain, but it's still not that hard to make the cost back at 50, if you supply to other DoH classes)
Getting everything to 50 leaves you in a good spot to pick them all back up in HW and hit 60 with them.
Essentially, if you have free time, just hit 50 in everything. Then you can call it a day or craft shit for yourself to spiritbond/sell for easy gil in certain markets without investing in materia.

Character creation is very limited and your character either looks good or looks like everyone else around.
Characters run in some fucked up way, I can't imagine messing that up with such a budget.

Pretty much, but that's the issue with an untimely Fluid Aura. It can break your cast before Face Target can save it, if it shoots it right past you. You can salvage the cast when it isn't quite so quick, such as when an enemy slowly passes by you, but there are a lot of times when Fluid Aura, especially, fucks a caster up in dungeons.
It's just nice to save them the worry, especially because, as you said, not all BLMs are actually aware of it.

I started a new FC xmas last year. We're now rank 8 with a fully furnished large house, and everything any member could possibly want from an FC.
Except we can't get members, at all.
Everyone in the game seems to have an FC, and is unwilling to leave it.
I feel like we've tried everything.
At first we tried approaching friends, and offering invites. When that failed, we approached random fc-less people and asked them personally. When that failed, we made ads on party finder and sometimes even just shout spammed.
At best, we would get either mains who would bail on us after a few days, or alt/new players who never logged in again.
The only other member i can hold onto is a long time friend who follows me everywhere and acts as the co-leader.
I'm wonder what /xiv/'s suggestions might be. I don't even know if its worth worrying about with the massive flood of FCs out there trying to grab members.

Honestly it's a bad time to recruit people, most statics and FCs fall apart at pre-expansion times.
Your best bet is to involve yourself and the few active FC members you have with the part of the community you want to focus on, then pick up members as you go.
If you raid, try making PF groups for FCoB, if it works well you might get people that'd like to join. If it's RP, try to set up events, etc.
