It depends though whether you're talking about RNG difficulty, difficulty in terms of dedication, complexity, or reflex skill required
For instance Dwarf Fortress doesn't need that much reflex skill, it's just hardcore in the sense that it takes a lot of dedication to figure out how shit works
meanwhile tetris is pretty intuitive but to play at high difficulty it takes a fuckload of dedication with the timing you need

So i'm not sure where I'm going with my post but lots of things can be considered "hardcore" when played at a high level against people, so you might wanna limit your thread to single player hardcore games

DCS modules are pretty hardcore
I just now managed to land the A-10C succesfully for the first time and it felt good
But then comes the realization that I need to be able to do it perfectly maybe multiple times in a mission, with varying weight and wind directions.
