Im trying to fight the gendrome and he is not hard at all, but whenever i try to aim my bow at him one of his stupid fucking minions does a flying drop kick that paralyzes me from off screen.
every area in this desert has like ten of them and two more respawn for each one i kill.

Stop aiming your bow so much (let alone against a gendrome). Ready the arrow, dont ever stop moving, and fire at the right distance and range. It'll become very fluid for you eventually
Only press the aim button when you're aiming for specific body parts with rapid shots or going from head-tail/wing-wing with pierce shot.
Look up optimal distance. Basically if you're too close or too far you get a damage penalty. You wanna be around 2-3 rolls away from the monster. You know you're at the right distance when your shots have a huge white flash and the screen shakes.
Don't spam the powershot (not to be confused with Power coatings) either.

Because it uses alot of stamina which could be better used rolling, and it leaves you wide open for an attack due to its ending animation lag.
It's generally a good idea to use it alot (and even if you're out of stamina you can still use it due to stamina regen) but it's not always the best choice.

All bow shots are one of 3 types and depend on the bow.
Rapid fires a small bunch of arrows in a tight formation. Arrows spread out vertically. This is the bread and butter shot. Great for small enemies and hitting specific body parts.
Pierce fires a single powerful arrow that penetrates and will hit all the hitzones/hitboxes on a monster that it flies through. Great for HUGE monsters and shit like Plesioth. Horrible on small monsters or the Dromes.
Scatter fires and a horizontal fan shaped formation. It's good for applying status/element or with closerange coating but can be pretty meh otherwise because typically trying to hit a monster with the entire spread will make you leave the optimal distance or half the arrows wont hit the weakspot.

I've been trying to get into mhg but it just ain't clicking
most of the styles feel like shit because you either lose key aspects of the weapon or because their hunter arts are just utter dogshit.
They removed basically everything fun from CB and nerfed IG's dmg into the ground
Hammer and HH feel like they're at least a generation behind and completely unloved by the devs.
So far most of the fights have been 1st or 2nd gen mons that have not been updated since their initial release so add spam, instant charges, and tail spins ahoy.
I've been trying to get into SnS since its oils and HA aren't garbage and it did not get gutted like other weapons did and it works, but I just feel like the game really just is not that fun at all.

I always hate how games introduce difficulty in the amount of adds you have to kill instead of making the actual boss challenging.
Like XCX, I actually fought the (second to) last boss outside of my Skell on his second phase and killed his shield satellite and shit and was super fucking annoyed until I realized they parked the skells right inside the doorway for you to use, even though you don't enter with them.

Damn, capsom's been on a roll using licensed stuff as DLC. In 4U, they had Devil May Cry, Street Fighter, and Mega Man(Capcom's IPs), Mario, and Zelda(Nintendo IPs), and Sonic(Sega's IP) for DLC outfits and weapons.
In Generations we get Fire Emblem(Nintendo's IP) and anime/maga series for outfits and such.

HH is really simple to pick up currently.
Learn your songs, try to smash the monster while playing the correct notes for song activation, the go recital on its head. If you hit all the notes while smacking the monster, you activate the current song + the previous, essentially giving you a free encore.
Maestro is good at the beggining when you are not used to keeping up the buffs, but can be discarded later in favor of straight damage.
Also, you are not a "support", dont stay far away playing songs like a little bitch, smash that fucking head with the power of your music.

Play everything all the time, especially if you don't have Horn Maestro on. More buffs on your team is never a bad thing, so unless you've just finished buffing everyone and you know it's not running out for a while, you should always be making music while bashing skulls.
Besides, most of the time, randoms won't wait around for you to play your music at the start of a quest, except occasionally against Elder Dragons and such where you can't escape the arena once you've gone in.
Just make sure to keep your White-White or Purple-Purple buff active all the time. It's what lets you move around ridiculously fast with your weapon out, along with keeping your attacks from bouncing.
Also, since HH's arts are kind of lackluster (the only decent one is the one that lets you play double notes all the time, and that shouldn't be necessary if you're up in a monster's grill all the time) there's one art that removes all status effects, positive and negative, and heals your health some for each status removed. It can save you in an emergency.

I finished 3U solely using GL. From start to finish. Over 600 hunts with it. Solo'd almost all G-rank.
I finished 4U entirely using GL only. Online was terrible with being stun locked by your team mates and monsters being too fast to utilize your weapon thanks to more players. Finished all challenges anyway. Tried other weapons. Realized how overpowered GS, Dickstick and DW were after trying them. Even regular lance felt more satisfying.
So... Generations is in the mail and I'll get it next week. How bad is GL now and will I be able to do online hunts without worry of being fucked over or fucking over my team mates?

Large monsters have a lot of health, since they're basically boss fights. If you're new to the game expect to take 10+ mins taking down even a -drome while you get the hang of it.
You feel like you're doing zero damage because you were using DS, which is kind of a death-of-a-thousand-cuts thing. Hammer will remedy that, just hit the head with charge attacks and wail on it when it gets KOed.
Upgrade your weapon, too. That'll help.

cephadrome was the first thing I ever timed out on in MH, all those years ago.
you can throw a sonic bomb at him while he's swimming around as long as he is NOT enraged. He'll pop out and flop around for a few hits. The sonic bomb has to hit in his general 'area' though.
Hammer is a great choice for a new player overall, maybe try it on something other than Cephadrome first to get the hang of it. It teaches you the good habit of hitting the monster's head instead of just any part you don't bounce off of. And it feels very very good to knock something out.

That was mostly in the older games. Just be sensible about how you use your horizontal attacks and you'll be fine. For example, stay away from the head in multiplayer because the Hammer/Horn user will want to be there for maximum benefit. Or, if your Greatsword user is charging up a massive L3 swing, move away from him before you start attacking so you don't interrupt him. Any weapon can trip, it just depends on the player being a moron. Longsword just got a bad reputation because it was the popular choice for weeb Sephiroth wannabes, who probably would've found a way to trip you whatever weapon they used.

Incorrect. Once you hit orange, you're just a little weaker than 4U on poking. Once you hit Red, you're a little stronger than 4U on poking. The real nerf was in shelling damage. Examples:
4U Normal LV1 [10], LV2 [14], LV3 [18]
Gen Normal LV1 [8], LV2 [11], LV3 [14]
But even then this isn't that big of a loss. The heat gauge mechanic could use a little work but really all it means is that it gets knocked down about half a minute to a minute on kill times in general.

Hardly. It's actually a bit simpler than in previous entries, as well as less limiting. Instead of having to try out every combination of ingredients on a quest to figure out their stat bonuses, you can combine them at the beginning and they tell you what the new meal does, letting you choose your bonuses. Hell, they outright tell you which ingredients can be combined with which to unlock a new meal. Also, your stat bonuses are no longer tied to which felyne skills you can get.

I think the biggest problem isn't that Gunlance is worse. It's not, its clear times are better relative to other weapons. The main prolbem is how boring and formulaic it is. Due to Aerial/Adept styles giving you easy slams and the Heat gauge raising a ton after full burst, you'd be a fool to use anything but Normal. You spam full burst and then use Wyvern's Fire (which you HAVE to use at a specific point so you stay in red) to lock in. It's boring.

I'm swapping between Adept and Aerial myself. Adept lets me pretty much stand toe to toe with most monsters, while Aerial lets me place the full bursts away from my teammates. I'm doing my absolute best to not be a bad lancer and pound my teammates around like subbuteo figures.
