Yellow meter is Instinct, the equivalent of SFV's V-Triggers.
Combo breakers work on a button strength system. If you see a light auto-double or linker, press both lights to break. Counter breakers function on the offense's assumption that the defender will try to break. You must pre-empt that break attempt by pressing both mediums. If you guess the wrong strength of attack to break, or you try to break in the space between attacks, you will get put in a 3 second lockout. Counter breakers put the defender in a 4 second lockout, for reference.
Combos in KI revolve around the mindgames. If you do a light string, it'll be low damage, but relatively difficult to break due to the small hit windows on attacks. Vice versa for heavy, and medium sits somewhere in between. Condition your opponent to think you're going to use one strength, and then do the opposite.
