The big problem is they basically were ignoring any original concepts for Garo with Yamitera. Makai Knights were very stern and straightforward, if insanely altruistic. They had rules they followed and the idea of even breaking one was a worrisome thought, to the point paranoia made them mostly work alone. That's why you only see a few Makai Knights per show. Now you got three of them who all fit into generic anime molds and the only things they bring to the table are new poses and they're all special "rulebreakers" when the idea of Kouga breaking rules was sudden, bizarre, and actually made him a subject of controversy.

Kanon isn't a very interesting character, but also hasn't had much screentime since her shit was sorted out eons ago. I don't think it's fair to point to a character for being boring and say they make the show boring when they never spend enough time on screen to actually drag a scene down. I have found the mysteries and development of the story to be very interesting through the entire course of Ghost so far. The cast isn't my favourite in a Rider show, but I think there's more to telling a good story than having the best characters. Similar to how OOO's mediocre plot for long stretches of episodes was saved by its likable characters, I think it's the plot of Ghost that stands above its characters, although I wouldn't go so far as to say the characters are bad.
You had a pretty reasonable response though, so I don't really want to argue about it. I respect your thoughts on the show, I just wanted to make it clear I didn't like Ghost through sheer virtue of being better than Wizard.

Whilst I disliked Ryuga's personality in Yamitera, it was fairly obvious he was also a "new" Makai Knight in an era where the Makai Order was sort of a mess. Watchdogs were gone, any semblance of "order" was sort of awkwardly replaced by the Priests who very obviously are in over their heads, and are facing some genuine fuckin' threats, and at the same time their biggest hope Garo (Who might as well be Makai Knight Jesus) being not only gone for quite some time, but coming back in the hands of this shitty kid who somehow ended up with a corrupted "shine-less" version. As a result, he was put through a lot of bullshit and question to really earn the title, to the point even the ring that is supposed to faithfully serve at Garo's side thinks he's sort of a joke, even at one point musing that he can't wait for Ryuga to die so the new Garo can come along. This did culminate positively, turning Ryuga into a much more forward, steadfast person who is willing to actually do his job and be more stand-up about it.Still not as great as Kouga though. I lost my shit when he appeared in Makai Retsuden.

Just look at what they're doing with Makoto and Alain.
They clearly didn't know what to do with Makoto so they threw a contrived existential "am I really me" clone subplot on him almost 2/3 through the entire series, long after they found out about the bodies.
Meanwhile Alain gets relegated to playing with Sanzou's buttmonkey friends while Sanzou is out bonding with Takeru despite the Sanzou eyecon being almost exclusively used by necrom.
And don't forget that Takeru ended up taking down the man who taught Alain how to fight, rather than having Alain himself do it after his "training".

ghost is impossible to enjoy because none of the characters have ever even hinted at a personality. Like Takeru shouldnt even bother talking because he's never said a word that contributes to anything. I'm all for a return to form Kamen Rider but it seems like the extended time for the episodes really hurt it. Since it follows the same plot line of an average episode everything gets dragged out and became boring in the end. It also felt like the show wanted to have an actual plotline but falls all over itself since it doesn't have many characters to begin with and not enough plot movement to warrant anything interesting happening. There's also the lame attempts at comedy that I just couldn't take it and eventually dropped it.

Wizard and Blade are in entirely separate boats.
Wizard ran off of hype and advertisements up to episode 2, then slowly fell apart into boredom as they forgot most interesting ideas and had the two worst writers have petty fights over who should be Haruto's waifu.
Blade started off not only with a bunch of controversy early on (Tsubaki had the whole pornography scandal) and was a mess untilSayoko diedwhere it began to slowly piece itself together. And once Sho Aikawa took over as lead writer, the plot began to formulate together and lots of ideas and theories filled out rapidly and the actors finally settled into their roles and landed spectacular deliveries, and granted a bittersweet and depressing ending. And instead of just throwing in a one-off thing about Dark Wizard adn a generally forced epilogue, Blade had a generally great epilogue novel AND CD Drama.

You have to remember the context of the series at that point.
The show before Fourze was OOO, which was an absolute mess due to forces beyond its control (that was around the time of both a huge shake-up of the Kamen Rider production staff, AND the earthquake that destroyed like half the country) so something like Fourze, with a clearly defined throughline for 42 episodes, was a nice relief.
Also, Fourze started off with SUPER low expectations. "A KR series in a highschool" just isn't a good pitch to start with, and nobody liked the main suit at first.

Why does everyone shit on Ghost like it's 100x worse than the next worst Rider? It's not that bad. Sure it's had constant dumb filler arcs and whiplash changes in direction, but when it's trying I really like it.

Alain's redemption was cool but that also demoted him to job the majority of the time he fought from then on.

all characters are boring
all the fights are overly toy-centric bullshit with half of the fight time consisting of switching to the next toy
the plot exists but you wouldnt know it because characters are so awful and dont seem to think about anything.
Havent watched since episode 30 but it seemed like half the episodes are just rushed through so they can get a promo shoot of that toy of the week.
I would gladly watch Wizard over this because at least that has one character with a personality.
