I admit, I have one of those. Not for xbone, for 360, and it was cheap. Sega Genesis's 6 button layout with the gentle arc would be a perfect way to add more buttons.
Rather than move the White / Black buttons to the shoulders, keep them, add the shoulder buttons and put the Start / Select buttons in the right spot.
And maybe fix the stick layout. Xbox could have been something.

The problem is that four buttons all fit perfectly under your thumb with no need for adjustment. Six buttons would not only lead to you constantly needing to move your thumb over, it could also cause you to lose your place on the standard four buttons, or you accidentally start pressing B when intending to hit A because you thought your thumb was in a different section.
It would take time to get used to, but overall I think current controller designs are fine.
And I also think the current gen of controllers are the best controllers we've ever had. WiiU gamepad without the gamepad portion would be great too.
