I looked up some videos and I don't really get the hype behind this game. Yeah I get that the enemies are really big, but you're just shooting them so their size doesn't really seem to have any impact on gameplay other than changing the environment (destroying buildings). It's pure gameplay, and it's hard to explain the appeal just through videos or text. Basically the focus is on always growing stronger and getting better equipment, and the different enemy types actually do require you to think about how you approach them, especially on higher difficulties where they'll actively try to flank you (yes, the difficulty actually changes the AI and not just damage amounts). The different classes also breathe a lot of life into co-op.

The fundamental problem with porting is the effect it has on the development process. Sure, there's enough people outside of japan on pc now, but that's because they're staunchly refusing to buy non pc hardware. In the past these people buckled and owned consoles, but now their fanboyism forbids them from doing so. However, this will NEVER cause a japanese developer to make a pc version on their own. There is no pc market in japan outside of dodging cero ratings on eroge and the good ones have all ages versions on consoles already. Notice how NONE of these steam ports are available in japan. This means that for the near future, every single localization studio will have to waste time and money porting to reach a level of sales they used to have. Worst of all, it will never be more profitable because console development will not stop, leaving pc as an additional cost every damn time. Sure, you can tout all you want about supporting a developer, but without the spin, everyone knows you're hurting them. Fewer localizations will occur as the cost and risk increases and multiplayer games will be at the greatest risk because of split platforms. EDF didn't even need a port; the game is already 1080/60 on ps4. It was ported from ps3 to ps4 because it ran like ass and needed it.

You start with little plinker weapons. You pick up better and greater and eventually preposterous as fuck weapons to the point of throwing nukes at the fuckers.
You're gonna need them because the giant insects become so absurdly numerous and hostile, and buildings exploding en masse that it'll even cause the PS4 version's frame rate to drop.
It's just a god damn game that will tell you its story over the radio while you are killing shit and saving the earth, among countless cinematic games that will lock you into rooms and play countless cutscenes.
Its graphics look like shit but you play it and you feel heroic as fuck as you get your own forces to rally together, sing battle songs in unison while doing their damnedest to not die in the chaos of thousands of bugs coming right for them, have the music change to a dreadful theme but then switch to heroic ass kicking music as you turn it all around.
