I'm going to clue you in right now as to how DA:2 is the best game in the Dragon Age franchise. First, let's begin by asking ourselves who the biggest menaces are within the confines of the DA universe. Who are they? It's the mages - literal Dindus susceptible to demonic possession 24/7. They can shoot fireballs from their eyes and bolts of lightning from their arse in addition to taking deals from Pride Demons because of #magelivesmatter. In DA:2 you can fuck over mages at every turn. You can kill them, you can rat on them, you can piss off mage companions, and you can side with Meredith who literally did nothing wrong. DA2 is the only game to properly address the mage menace and give you the options to holocaust them as nature intended.

That makes no sense to me. Being a Grey Warden is a privilege, and they're heroes. She can practice magic of any sort, without getting hunted by Templars. Being stuck in the circle is stifling, and she can even die in the final act as a circle mage.

I can't play as an asshole, and even though I can play as a Qunari, I have the same voice and mannerisms as literally every other race. The Dragon Age series and Bioware in general are one of the biggest tragedies in gaming. Origins was a near-masterpiece and the company was doing so well and for the subsequent games and the DA sequels to be as shit as they was really is a shame.

it's super obviously rushed, the story is ass with multiple plot holes and a forced rushed asspull ending, most of the assets are reused to the point of absurdity(locations) and tedium(encounters), it butchers a few returning characters from DA1 and DA1:O, it squanders the setting to keep you sucking dick in the same city to keep reusing those assets for the entire game and if you missed it the story is in the same realm of retarded as Mass Effect 3's ending
And of course being the sequel to a pretty tight game like DA1 is salt in the wound.

In Inquisition they mostly use stock and recycled animations everywhere, jarringly try to use every camera angle trick in the book to hide the shitty quality of it, often fail even at that, and it's just shit.
Then here they did the effort of making custom animations for each cutscene and the animations were high quality. I mean those fighting animations are so sexy. Why did they stop doing this?

I refuse to believe anyone can consider 2 to be anything but the worst. Inquisition isn't perfect but it blows 2 away in almost every regard.
I replayed it last year too. It wasn't quite as bad as I remembered but all of the glaring flaws were still there. I do have to say that I somehow totally missed Isabella and it improved my experience.

Pre-skyhold Inquisition is fucking terrible, if you could skip the start i'd do it everytime. Once you finally get shit going it becomes much more fun. I enjoyed the gameplay, character. The combat, crafting, weapons, armor styles, graphics and characters (to an extent). I do miss the silly banter from DA2 though and Meredith literally did nothing wrong.

It doesn't, at least not in the sense DA2 does. DA2 often spawns shit behind you or anywhere on the battlefield really, it's jarringly "gamey" and it makes all strategical thinking moot because during a battle enemies can spawn in completely nonsensical locations.
In Origins they have the courtesy to not spawn the enemies on top of you and there's a predictable logic to it(enemies come out of a gate for example, they don't spawn out of nowhere next to your character).

It goes deeper than that because of how the game manipulates the player, in particular "noble" players who do the good thing.
If you're not a noble character, then it doesn't matter. You can fight him if you want, and it wouldn't effect you.
But if you've spent all of your time being the good guy and trying to reform Isabela, then she returns to make things right. And he demands that you turn her over to justice. Meaning, if you've spent all game being the noble "good guy" then your choice becomes:
a) reject his offer and be the bad guy who killed the Arishok to help a thief, or
b) betray the person you've spent two acts of the game trying to reform and condemn them to a death sentence
The entire storyline twists noble moral players into a situation where they end up having to be the bad guy because of the convoluted situation of the story. It's fantastic and miles beyond most shit-tier "let's all stop the crazy wizard who wants to be an evil god for no reason" bullshit.
He's the best villain because he's not even a villain. In most playthroughs on balance, he's arguably more of the good guy than the player character.

Literally none of it is Merrill's fault. Everything bad that happens stems from Keeper Marethari's pride causing her to intentionally alienate Merrill and making the rest of the clan fear her,which eventually leads to the Keeper falling under the lure of the demon for some pointless 'sacrifice' to keep Merrill safe
The only thing Merrill does 'wrong' is to be unrepentant about her use of blood magic (she didn't have any realistic alternative); all the people that die are a direct consequence of Marethari's actions instead.
