Thing is, no one gives a flying fuck about Extra. It's more of a living hell than the actual BETA universe. The mission in Alternative is a success, but the cast that you spent the vast majority of time with is dead and the war with the BETA goes on. Shoving an absolutely fucking awful fandisc in your face after that finale is unbelievably shitty writing.
Even if you've been spoiled, I suggest to anyone who's reading the series to ALT+F4 the VN the moment Takeru says his farewells and consider that the end. Those last 5 minutes completely destroy any feels you may have after the Alternative conclusion.

Let me tell you why this game is shit
1. It took fucking FOREVER. Even though it's a simple, uncomplicated storyline, they mange to drag this shit out for about 50 fucking hours. Only about 20 of those had anything significant happening, the rest was filled with loldeep moral faggotry and fucking lectures on stupid shit. Not to mention EXPLAINING character development. "This is what happened, this is how I felt before, this how it changed me, blah, blah, blah..." SHUT THE FUCK UP! Yeah, I saw what fucking happened, you don't have to explain it. You're literally undermining any actual character development this game had.
2. THE FUCKING MC! Has to be the most unlikeable retarded fuck in the history in VN history. Spends Extra being a stuck up, arrogant, dick. Spends Unlimited being a unless little bitch. Spends 1/3 of Alternative being an arrogant faggot thinking how better he is than the people who actually changed him from a useless little bitch to someone not utterly useless, giving them lectures, and generally talking about how he's right and they're wrong. THEN, at the first sign of trouble he instantly reverts back to whiny little useless bitch literally pissing in his pants. Then basically spends the rest of the game being pretty fucking useless and retarded. 1. MC: I'm so much more grown up now. That last event really changed me. 2. Not saying this has to be 'Book of the New Sun' levels of genius but for 50 hours they really have to have something substantial to offer. I don't mind infodumps on theoretical stuff as long as it isn't absurd or used as an autistic ploy to fill space, Starship Troopers did that pretty well. What bothers me here is the idea of awful pacing in a 50+ hour VN and Japanese bullshit. Both of those combined with the length sound like too much. A 50 hour plot that stops and starts and is resolved by the protagonist's childhood friend unlocking the true power of love in his heart or some shit sounds like too much for me to handle.
If you just wanted an idea of my taste in science-fiction that's easy enough. I think Star Wars isn't science-fiction but is a fine saga of movies and Prometheus was probably the best piece of science-fiction to come out of hollywood in decades.

Originally this is supposed to be a surprise but now that this internet thing exists it's basically common knowledge: the first game is the most deliberately stereotypical generic high school dating sim, there's wacky hijinks for a while and then shitty inescapable drama sets in until the main guy puts his penis in and everything's fine again. Do this to each of the two main girls and then the title screen changes, unlocking a new option when you start a new game.
You wake up in a wasted hellhole of a city with the smashed remains of a giant robot on top of your house. Shit happens and you find out you're in the 'what if aliens fucked up Earth back in the 70s' branch of history instead of regular harem high school. Grueling military training ensues.
Then more stuff happens, then you finally get to the third game, where what most people consider all of the high points happen. So yeah it's awful fucking pacing, and honestly probably isn't your cup of tea. But at least now you know.
Do yourself a favor and look up the movie Coherence, though. That's probably the best damn science fiction to come out in a while, and on a budget of like $5 and someone's friend's house for a weekend.

I'm mostly worried that I wouldn't be able to last through the coup arc if I played it again. Muv Luv as a franchise has some of the worst geopolitics and Imeprial Japan wanking I've ever seen. The spinoffs are so fucking awful because all of the humans acting like complete retards undermines the setting and atmosphere of humanity on its last legs.
When it was fresh to me, Alternative got a pass because Takeru and the Americans were kind of the voices of reason: they thought Fagiri's rebellion was dumb and so did I. If you replay the coup you'll notice the part where Meiya (in the guise of the Super Shogun) calls Fagiri a myopic dumbfuck who has no right to talk about "teh will of teh ppl" after straight-up murdering the democratically elected Cabinet with his katana, to his face.

Loyalty to Beatrix was pretty much keeping the Werewolves in the fight, after she was killed they surrendered but were all executed by the rebels.
So, Strike Frontier, judging by its trailer, will have fuel. I wonder about fuel/pilot health/mech parts.
