DeSu is a decent place to start with SMT in my opinion even though it still feels like Persona due to the anime aesthetic. If you're enjoying it so far you should try out Strange Journey after you're done. From there you can go to Nocturne, the Digital Devil Saga duology and the Raidou series.

I disagree, if it was a traditional RPG style it would be a lot less fun because the positioning aspect would be negated. A lot of the missions involve protecting NPCs or reaching certain locations, and even when simply fighting enemies your position on the map plays a large role. The SRPG aspects add a lot of depth to your tactics.
But yes, it is quite easy.

DeSu is just so weird for me.
There were times when I got bored of it and made me want to drop it, but then right away something cool happens in the story or there is a difficulty spike that makes me want to git gud which got me hooked on the game again. And I ended up loving it.
But I'm not sure if I want to pick up DeSu2 since everyone always says that the story goes full retard in favor of waifu/fujo pandering

I thought it was fine, it is more lighthearted which I didn't mind, but the game is way more difficult and str builds are not totally useless they are even pretty good.
Also the protagonist is a really fun guy.
