Well?
gobbet
God damn it, they're all so good. But Eiger.
>>344667590
Glory is total shit in combat, meanwhile Eiger uses the best weapons in the game.
Anyone but Is0bel. That fucking dwarf is one of the most irritating party members I've ever had in an rpg.
>>344667590
Both are good, both in combat and romanced.
>>344667590
how hard would it be to kiss eiger?
The answer is obvious.
Glory, she and my monk character just breezed through fights. Eiger was good but sometimes not so helpful.
>>344667590
Is this game any good? I got it in a sale but I only played the first hour or so before I dropped it for other vidya.
>>344667989
>Glory is total shit in combat
That's bullshit. I had glory completely running up to dudes and doing 4 attacks to decimate their hp or outright kill them. Glory is good if you're not using the gun and sticking to the melee.
>>344667590
What game and which one for what purpose?

the plot is great once it picks up, especially the lodge missions. if you want good turn-based combat out of it, play hong kong instead.
What's /v/'s favorite build?
I'd say pure mage is still mine. Mages are honestly OP.
Assault rifle decker is my runner up. Full auto is broken.
>>344668376
Yes it's very good. I'd say Dragonfall is overall the best game but they're all worth playing.

>>344667989
>Glory is total shit in combat
dude what? glory rips and tears in melee and that's the only direction you should level her in.
>>344669052
Never tried Adept myself. I always felt that melee-oriented builds were the hardest to be successful with in the series. At least pure melee with no Qi Casting.
>>344668752
Mage with capped HP pool is probably single one most powerful build. They have tools for any situations, they can go super saiyan on ley lines, they can disable enemies and have infinite AOE instead of limited grenades.
Plus you have a few spare points on top of that so you can get yourself a totem and a good charisma pool for speech checks.
>>344667752
Gobbet is shit, though. As a character she's tolerable, but as a shaman she fuck right off. Hong Kong's problem in general is that two best optional characters, Gaichu and Racter, essentially overshadow the main cast in both personality and mechanics. I could not be arsed to give a fuck about Duncan, for example.
>>344667590
Satan grill is literally a borderline soulless hunk of meat and chrome, who is only a few steps away from becoming a cyberzombie, while the orc slut is hot.

>>344669363
Completely agree. Mages only need to really focus on Willpower so they have a ton of karma to spread around. The crowd control abilities are ridiculous and their damage can be just as ridiculous. I've seen crits near 100 before.
>>344668376
If you dropped it at any point, you're objectively a shit eater.
Congratulations.

I don't think there's any indication in-game that she's lesbian, but "curing" her (which is impossible, since you can't restore lost essence, only patch up essence holes from switching from shitty cyberware to better one) is probably the last thing she wants anyway.
She shredded all that essence for a reason and bringing it back would make her susceptible to Satan's magical influence again.

To be honest their "silly" battletech game looks more interesting, gameplay-wise anyway, than any of their Shadowrun games.
Either way, both are licensed games, so they're reliant on what the license holder allows them to do with it. If whoever owns Shadowrun these days lets them make another SR game after they're done with the BT one, I doubt they'll turn it down.
Dragonfall is the superior game, therefor Glory is the superior girl.

Intelligence will be your main stat. Back it up with some firepower capability (Rifle is recommended). Charisma is recommended so you have the ability to get more karma and get past certain situations easier. Get Charisma to 6, Biotech to 4, focus on the Intelligence stats more, then dump whatever else you have towards your gun or spellcasting skills. Anything extra can go towards Dodge or Body.
I would say to start off:
4 Intelligence
4 Drone Control
4 Drone Combat
4 Body
4 Charisma (choose Corporate and Security etiquettes)
2 Quickness
2 Ranged Combat
2 Rifle
2 Biotech
You can also swap out using guns for spellcasting instead since you already have 1 free Willpower point:
4 Intelligence
4 Drone Control
4 Drone Combat
4 Body
4 Charisma (choose Corporate and Security etiquettes)
3 Willpower
3 Spellcasting
2 Biotech
Dietrich is more of a support class. His real offense comes from his summoning.

yeah you can keep her.
I wonder what sex with a female troll be like. All "snu-snu" and broken pelvis jokes aside, they're HUGE and powerful, even if you were a bodybuilder you'd still only be in a regular role reversal where she can pick you up and fuck you against the wall, instead of vice versa. There's also the issue of sizes, even a huge human dick won't satisfy. I'd use that to my advantage and instead play shy and intimidated and ask her to be gentle with me so she gets aroused of being in control. It's not like I could overpower her, flip her over and force-fuck her, I might as well go with the program.
Trolls canonically also have lots of patches of hard skin, horns and rough bony bumps and such, it wouldn't be very pleasant to look at.

>Without the PC being a good decker, you won't be able to see all the content in the game.
I've done playthroughs with no deckers on my team and ones with the PC being a dedicated decker, and you're not missing much. Maybe this would be a more viable point in tabletop Shadowrun, but that depends heavily on the DM.
>What makes decking so boring anyways
Because it's the exact same shit as regular combat, only way more limited in terms of shit you can do and slower because you have 1 character (unless you really hate yourself and bring along more than one decker) and a few shitty summons. And combat isn't the most exciting part of Shadowrun to begin with. And that's the just videogames, in tabletop it's even worse.
>It's far from useless either
It is, though. Mainly because decking doesn't really give you any major benefits, and also because you're using up a space that could be taken up by a better character. And the decker itself is basically a wasted character, especially if it's the PC.
the combat in this game is fucking xcom tier

Yeah, it sucks that in the game they were just basically a pet class.
>>344681093

It's about setting yourself up so that failure is next to impossible.
Use your fucking head.

>>344668752
Full pistols
3x chain shot with the 3 top tier pistols on flanked/armor broken enemies is probably the highest single turn damage potential in the game.
It can be tricky to get that ideal situation set up, but that's what makes it interesting.

The whole thing felt like a shallow Kickstarter obligation, the missions were tedious (especially that fucking Detention level with waves upon waves of fully-armored enemies), and the choice of antagonist was lame. I'd play it once just to get it out of the way and then never visit it again.
>>344682185

this nigga gets it. Being tacticool and setting up area of denial spells and getting the right reaction shots are the best failure-safeguard
>>344682374
That's mostly how I feel about it too.
I thought the ending was well thought out, but everything else seemed like less than half of what it should be.
Really easy since you're almost certainly going to be max level at that point, pretty uninspired design. Two sidequests that don't really contribute anything to an already short campaign.
Two hubs that you don't really have any reason to use.
The final mission was fun though. And I really liked that ending.
>>344681680
I'm not familiar with the tabletop games but I can't see them being completely useless in the video games. The PC makes the best decker I think. You can help compound the decker's ability with ranged combat, spellcasting, or charisma in the games too. They can still be a valuable soldier/mage/shaman on top of their decking abilities that can make your life easier.
>>344682320
I didn't care much for Gaichu, partially because I was a close combat specialist myself and partially because I just didn['t find him interesting, but Racter was pretty cool.
>>344682710
>>344682374
I liked it just because I wanted more shadowrun. While it wasn't up to par with the base game it's not like it was horrible or something. And I liked that they gave you some closure at the end.
>>344682760
>They can still be a valuable soldier/mage/shaman on top of their decking abilities that can make your life easier.
Or you could make the character a great soldier/mage/shaman if you disregard decking altogether, getting much more use out of him. That's my point. Sure, decking can make your life easier by disabling an occasional security cam or stealing some info for extra cash, but not picking it up and instead spending the points on other things makes your life even better. In the playthroughs that I've done with no deckers, I never found myself thinking "gee, I sure wish I had a decker in my team right now". Like I said, this could be different in a tabletop scenario if the DM decides to be a real dick and makes the campaign heavily reliant or even impossible without decking, but in the three games so far, it's basically wasted points and novelty.
>>344667752
>No romance with Gobbet.
What a disappointing game. I wanted some disgusting, crusty garbage sex.
>>344683297
In a tabletop scenario, if you have a decker who jacks in, does the DM have to take him out of the room and describe shit to him one-on-one? Since no one else is jacked in, I mean.
>>344681730

>>344682584
I've only played Dead mas switch, so I'll say that its the weakest as far for me. I liked it up until we started going to the brotherhood thing which seemed a bit generic but the game has a nice pace and the writing for the characters is very good.
>>344683538
Nope. The decker basically gets to play his own mini-campaign for a while while the rest of the players go take a piss or get some snacks. Or just sit around the table and think about ways of murdering the decker without it being obvious. Not even kidding, if you thought that having to skip turns with the rest of your team while a decker fucks around in cyber space is bad enough in the vidya, decking in the tabletop version is like that but even worse, because there are actual dice rolls going on and even a short decking session can last anywhere up to 15 minutes, during which the rest of the players do absolutely fuck all.
Which is why any good Shadowrun DM either houserules the fuck out of decking to speed it up somehow, or just cuts that shit out completely and makes NPCs do it.

It's a cool concept in itself, being able to enter the goddamn matrix in a physical form and actually punch a firewall instead of just staring at a screen with a bunch of gibberish on it, Hollywood style, but the implementation has never worked well.
>>344684586
Once again, that depends on how much of a dick the DM wants to be and thus how much protective shit he puts into the cyberspace. I've once been in a campaign where it took our decker almost an hour in real time to hack three security cameras, a fingerprint scanner, and a door. That was the moment when our group decided to tell the DM to cut that shit out because it was getting fucking ridiculous.
>>344684746
Well now, that sounds nice. I must admit, I am a fan of the classic editions of tabletops, including Shadowrun, so I don't have a lot of experience with the new editions. But that sounds like it would certainly improve the experience. Still, the memories remain to this day, and whatever improvements were made to the tabletops didn't exactly carry over to the videogames it would seem, as the vidya decking brings back all the bad times.

that's not actually racial dimorphism but HBS improving on the existing models to make them less monstrous and more antropomorphic like they're supposed to look like, the old models were made that way for metatype readability on smaller screens since returns and DF were also mobile games and HK is strictly for desktop

>>344687739
Pretty much. It's all ancient elves or dragons. Which is kinda why the meta of Shadowrun is boring as fuck and you just want to read the lore. Although it makes sense structurally because shadowrunners by default aren't moves and shakers in the world, you're just mercs doing shady jobs for the highest bidder. As a rule you never get to affect the world on any notable scale.

I played all three games on the harder difficulty just to be challenged in some way, and Hong Kong STILL felt like playing on Easy. But you take the good with the bad.
That fake-loli mission ending was tough as shit, I'll give them that. I wonder how it would take place if I decided to tell both armies to go fuck themselves.

You fight both at the same time and pray they decide to go for each other instead of your characters. They also have couple of waves of reinforcements each.

>>344687972
Yeah, humans in particular and runners in general don't get the special snowflake mary sue powers, but humans make up for that in being crafty fuckers and always being determined to become the top dog. Look at all the RPGs that have humans becoming godlike through sheer willpower and shit like that, usually practicing magic until they become nearly omnipotent. Magic exists in Shadowrun as well, so why couldn't there be a human mage/shaman who's so hardcore that even the dragons are like "whoa now man, take it easy". And it's not just mages either, because you also have semi-magical monks, and if there's a human monk in Forgotten Realms who can resist a spell that stops all time everywhere just through his own power, why not have something like that in Shadowrun?
>>344688403
Problem is you will end up fighting 15+ enemies at once if you're not fast enough in eliminating current enemies. Their reinforcements came at set intervals no matter how many units are on the field. Basically, if two corporations end up fighting each other you're good to go but that's entirely RNG from what I've seen.
>>344688267
I guess you should refuse to play Shadowrun, then. :^)
>>344688709
Because shadowrun is cyberpunk. The man always wins. If the man loses then it stops being cyberpunk.
>>344688709
Because Shadowrun has just recently had a magical re-awakening which sparked all the metahumans and other things happening. Earthdawn aka 4th Age was rich as fuck in magic and that's where all the heavy hitters come from. You basically can't compete on raw power alone and whatever teachings mortal races have are pitiful to millennia of training and experience these important characters have.
>>344688698
> Just a note: since all AI now uses gumboscript, you can edit the SRHK_Data\StreamingAssets\ContentPacks\HongKong\data\ai\gumbo_*.gumbo.bytes files (they're just text files) and increment the MAX_ATTACKS and DEFAULT_LOOPS values by 1. This'll allow every enemy to make 2 attacks per turn instead of 1 (though 2-AP enemies will likely still spend one of their APs moving into cover and/or to flank a player), which can increase challenge quite a bit!
Caveat: I probably wouldn't apply the same change to the IC AI, since it may result in Is0 getting brain-fried by some of the combat encounters before she has a chance to summon two ESPs and get into cover. Similarly, I don't think applying this change to the AI used by enemy casters would help too much, since they use multi-AP attacks and can already cast a support spell + attack spell in the same turn...
Do elves in shadowrun have larger lifespan or they are just humans with higher magical abilities and knife ears?
>>344688709
>HFY faggotry
Yeah, you can just fuck right off now.
>>344688709
Because humans are the slavs of Shadowrun.
>>344689207
Some of them are literally immortal, but all of them have a (potential) lifespan of several hundred years.
Of course, runners don't usually live their full lifespan, so it's a bit of a moot point.

As I side note I just re-read Neuromancer recently and it's still a great fucking book, despite its 80's origins. Almost no cringe worthy tech, really good characters and genuine originality. It didn't hit me as cliche' at all, which I thought would be inevitable since it literally started the genre.

This is game is great and just in time for a thread as I just played Shadowrun Returns for the first time last week. I even made a second run with a human decker assault rifle characer that used drones, my first one being a female elf shaman with smg( big mistake).
I really liked the game and setting it had a nice pace even tho it felt a little bit rushed near the end. Very good art and good writing, it was a bit too short for me as I wanted more tacticool combat.
I just read throught the whole thread and now am currently installing dragonfall. Can't wait to stir shit up, have no idea what to make, maybe an mage or street samurai, I might try shaman again if it has new and better spells abilities.

Because humans don't live long enough and don't have enough magic.
Dragons and ancient elves have lived for thousands of years, are virtually immortal, and have control, either directly or indirectly, over pretty much anything that matters in the grand scheme. You're not going to catch up with them.
The best you can do is become head of some powerful corp, but even then it's likely someone will be pulling your strings, with or without your knowledge, from behind the scenes.
That's just the kind of setting it is. It's cyberpunk. You ain't shit, and if you were it would stop being cyberpunk.
>>344690004
Cant go wrong with mage in Dragonfall because the only other mage you have is a shaman so he's not super useful with damage spells but he's pretty good with buffs but late game for mage is where it's at. You can buff yourself and team and you have some craft damaging aoe spells and can debuff, stun, sleep enemies. Shit's just fun for mage. In SRR, I played a sam but it just doesn't compare to mage in DF.

If you want the whole experience, you need to start at the beginning, with the SNES Shadowrun. Then go on to the Genesis one, and then to Returns (and it's called that for a reason instead of "begins")/Dragonfall/HK. Also, make sure to skip the other things called Shadowrun.
>>344694418

He didn't. As in, at all.
He was able to recover from a lethal injury due to being able to take on more hardware without fucking over his own essence, but there's nothing suggesting he's actually "better" in any way other than his own bragging. He's a great rigger and engineer, but that isn't related to his "ability", and physically he's worse off than almost anyone else in the party.
His whole personal storyline is basically just him egotripping over how he's enlightened by his own intelligence.

What about Shadowrun Chronicles?
It looks exactly the same but has such poor reviews on Steam. Anyone have any idea why?
>>344695194
Complexity can be bad when it's overdone for no good reason, as is the case with this. This also ties into the math thing, as you shouldn't be spending most of your playtime doing calculations, unless you're roleplaying as a calculator. I'm not against crunching some numbers now and then, but 5e can get ridiculous in that aspect.
And if you have to throw out rules from the game to make it fun and interesting to play, then I'd say there's a good chance there's something fucked with those rules.
>>344695814
>It looks exactly the same but has such poor reviews on Steam. Anyone have any idea why?

Yep. It's not a terrible game on its own, but it completely fails as a Shadowrun game. Why? Because it's an FPS game, for starters. And one that doesn't really do justice to the series, nor does it have any of the good gameplay or writing.
>Chronicles
Developed by a different team and it shows, because it's shit all around. It's like a bad fanmade campaign, really.
And yes, mages and riggers are better in Dragonfall and HK. In Returns the gameplay is kinda weak, so you'd better off just making a cookie cutter AR-based street samurai and blowing your way through the relatively short campaign and then diving deep into the other two with a more interesting class.

So then Dragonfall is shorter than Returns? Well I really like the combat so I suppose ill entertaining myself with blowing off heads and such.
I am also considering doing a street samurai I'm not sure.
Not really fond of cookie cutter builds I rather try my own thing for a while see if it works.
I might try to make a more liable mage or SS later in my second play through. I'm pretty sure ill be doing another go when I've completed it the first time around.

GURPS ruleset makes Shadowrun look like FUDGE in comparison.

>So then Dragonfall is shorter than Returns?
Reading comprehension, anon. Returns is the one with the short campaign, both Dragonfall and HK are way longer and better.

GURPs is bit of a divisive system. Most of the shittalkers have never given it a good shot.
It definitely has some retarded shit and it falls into the same trap that later Shadowrun editions fall into, having many rules that are sometimes needlessly complex, especially to new players. There's a pretty funny copypasta about building a boat in GURPS that I can't find right now, but the general joke is that you need an advanced engineering degree to make a proper boat. On the upside, it's much, much less constricting than Shadowrun and allows for a much more open, relaxed way of playing once you get familiar with the rules.
I personally like it a lot, though I'm definitely biased because I'm already past the hurdle of "oh no, I don't know which rules to use for this specific thing". And once you're at that point, it's easily the most flexible "mainstream" system there is without straying into FATE (which is definitely cool but really shallow), or (god forbid) freeform territory.
If you're looking for universally reviled systems, look for something like FATAL or HYBRID.

is there like a pun I'm not getting or is fudge an actual ruleset

He's gay, so I don't know if you're implying you make him happy or screw him over.

The latter.

It's extremely rules-light stuff.
Fun to play with the right kind of group, but not much of a system.

Oh, alright then. Never mind.

Thanks, while you're here: what's wrong with freeform systems? I always hear horror stories and passing shots at them but never an example of what's wrong with them, although I guess it's largely individual experience since they're all differentI have a friend who wants to get me with this group to play something I think is freeform, and I'm hesitant because of what I've heard
>>344677480
How beginner-friendly is the HK editor? I've got ideas but not a lot of skill.
>>344667989
She's RIP AND TEAR incarnate, does decent ranged damage if you give her a good pistol, AND has by far the best backstory of any character in SRR. Confirmed yourself as a bad player with worse taste.
>>344700264
I think the world building is tile-based, and I don't think the scripting is that hard to get into. I think it might be comparable to a lighter version of RPG maker
>>344700191
In freeform systems you build your own foundations for your game, such as the core rules and stats. So you really need to know what the fuck you're doing, meaning you need to have prior RPG experience and know what a good system needs, otherwise you'll end up building yourself something that's either a clusterfuck or shallow and boring.
>running as a "fuck magic" pistol wielder medic with the resist magic trait in a campaign

Antumbra (for Dragonfall) and the Caldecott Caper (for Hong Kong) are both complete and excellent.
The Clean Fire and Operation Complex Prophet (for Dragonfall) are both unfinished, but nonetheless have a few hours of fun, varied content between them.
>Play through Shadowfall
>Shit tier generic story, awful "group" system
>Like the setting
>Dragonfall comes out, played 10min
>Hong Kong comes out
I just don't know why, I have to force myself through starting up the game, but then I sit for 3-4 hours and play.
>>344700749
The beginning of Dragonfall is really hard to get through. No idea why, but it just kills my motivation to play.
Didn't have this problem with Hong Kong.

The first "real" mission (not the one where Monika dies) is pretty long for an intro.

>what's wrong with freeform systems?
Nothing, if you've got the right group. With the wrong kind of group it's just a recipe for disaster, though. Some players need hard rules to reign in their rampant autism, while others need as a framework to build their roleplaying on.
With freeform, there aren't any (or at least very little) "hard" rules, so you need a confident GM and some dedicated players to keep things interesting without letting them get out of hand.
There's a constant struggle in how much rules your group actually needs, and most groups end up just modifying the game they're playing to actually suit their needs (being a ruleslawyer and adding houserules where necessary if they need more structure, or simply ignoring/simplifying rules if they need more freedom). In my opinion it is often disappointing to see how almost nobody is willing to make the switch to a system that is more suited to them and instead just keep modifying a game that isn't suited for them or (even worse) simply keep playing it because it's all they know so it can't be wrong. But I do understand taht not everyone is willing to put in the time and effort required to try out multiple systems to see which ones they like best. That goes double for setting-specific rules like Shadowrun. If someone really likes Shadowrun, they're likely to stick with the Shadowrun ruleset forever even when GURPS or FATE or whatever might be better suited to their needs as a group.

I always thought Kindly was a cunt and I didn't want to work for her in the first place, so yeah, I went with Duncan.
It was a shame leaving my team behind, but I think it's what my character would do.
>>344701164
That's where I fell in love with the game. I was specifically referring to the tutorial mansion run.
>>344701568
I didn't have any particular problems with that one. What's wrong with it?
>>344701714
Don't really know. It's not bad, but at the same time I have to force myself through it even on subsequent playthroughs.
>>344691402
Money is tight, but you have karma to burn.
Check out my character. Look how fucking retarded her build is. I have points in EVERYTHING. But I'm still wrecking shit all over the place because mages are just that powerful.
How in the living fuck did HBS managed to write something as good as Dragonfall? The characters and the story were some of the best in vidya ever, definitely on the level of Obsidian's best shit, including PST and MotB.
I hope they continue making games in this setting, I really loved Dragonfall and HK.
Also, regarding fucking female trolls, you niggers don't understand, that if a slut is huge, it doesn't mean that her vagina is huge as well. Unless specified otherwise, there's literally no reason to expect that a troll's reproductive organs are any different from a human's.
>>344693893
Do you know anything about the Shadowrun universe? If not, the first one's more or less a guided tour of the basics. The later ones are more interesting if you're building on a baseline.
