like i noticed Gatts fighting style relies mainly on his right hand to swing the sword
and when he was cutting up that rabbit to eat it he used his mouth to rip off the skin and when he was peeling that potato (?), he used his fake arm just as a platform and turned the potato around to be able to peel more skin off
if they can add things like that to make it seem more like Gatts is some kind of "handi-capable" killing machine i can really dig the animation
there's a bit more flexibility that comes with CGI than with hand drawn
the main downside is the fast action scenes become an incomprehensible blur if they arent handled properly or shot in at an appropriate frame rate

The older series looks great in stills, and the soundtrack is god-tier, but the animation itself is lacking, even by comparison to other anime at the time, and there's a lot of cut content.
The newer versions are WAY to over-reliant on CG, and frankly, they look like a shitty PS2 cutscene. The third movie took great strides to remedy that, and I'd even say it looks gorgeous, but it was a case off "too little, too late", and the movie project was cancelled. The new series gave me some hope when it was announced, but holy god, is it ever painful to watch.

By far the biggest flaw with the 90's animu the fact for many large action scenes they didn't have the budget to actually anime them. Instead of showing 30 individuals all fighting guts as he swings his sword around they'd leave up a still image of guts killing dudes and play all the sound effects as guts goes nuts to give us the impression cool shit was happening without actually having to animate it. The anime effectively becomes a mock radio drama in these scenes. There are a few scenes the 90s anime does significantly worse than the manga or the movie adaptation, Adonis' murder for example.
The 90s animu also ends without any real resolution, we don't see skull knight save Guts and Casca from the eclipse just guts suiting up as the blackswordsman and leaving godo's shack which for non manga readers can be incredibly confusing.
The movie trilogy is generally shittier than the 90s anime, cutting out almost all non-guts character development. The "benefit" (if you can call it that) in the movies is in place of still images for action scenes like in the 90s animu in the movies we got shitty CGI. They still couldn't be fucked to animate the heavy action scenes but at least we get some sort of animation this time but I'm not really sure this something is better than the nothing we had before. Generally I think of the movies as shit but they did do the final scenes of movie 3 pretty well. Casca's rape was pretty excellent as was Guts running from it all when he realizes the Casca he loves is not there anymore.
The 90s animu is probably the best commercial for the manga but it is by no means a replacement for it. Manga comes first and the adaptations are really only a curiosity for Manga fans after they've caught up.

Anyone fan whos wondering, yes the Movies are worth watching. Pretty much any scene where it looks 2D, is really damn beautiful. While the CGI is 50% shit, 50% okay. It really has its moments. Plus the English dub is pretty damn fantastic, same with the JP Dub. That Skully and Void especially in English, damn.
What really boggles my mind, was if the current Anime had just been the 2D style, it would have been fantastic. But instead they just took the shitty CGI parts of the movies, and made them twice as bad. Unreal how terrible it is.

Actually the chances are high that the game will be vastly better than the new anime. The new anime is a complete abomination.
