Tried to play yesterday. Got in about 4 competitive matches within a couple of hours. Too fucking long, not enough players. Also the timer to start a competitive match is far too long. Valve needs to understand the PC market they've created, people are legitimately retarded and playing this game, DO NOT give them the option to ready a loadout, once enough players are in, start the game immediately.
The majority of players go AFK or don't realize they need to press F4 to opt into starting the match, and so they just leave the game, get penalized, and then the penalty lifts so everyone leaves.
Blizzard were very smart in their retard-proof matchmaking in Overwatch. Valve just doesn't seem to understand.

Just need to get better. I played a lot of spy ack in the day, including competitive play as well. The most important skill as a spy against skilled players is quick decision making and reaction speed. seeing as you might have to switch targets due to enemy moving differently than you might have had anticipated.
It's also worth noting that you need to sometimes be patient and wait a little before going in, for example if they're busy with your team. They wont have much time to turn around if they are already focused on someone else after all.
Just make sure to uncloak at good spots not near your enemies since they might hear you o therwise.

Organizing a party is pretty easy if you two are eye-to-eye on meeting. However you both have to wait and all the other schlock that may come with matchmaking.
Quickplay also has its disadvantages, anybody can join and cuck you out of a slot until someone leaves. End up waiting anyway and it's a bit of a pain if you both prefer arranging games.
However I still favor quickplay myself, solely because me and my friend can be on opposite teams and kill each other if we (or autobalance) feels like it.

I think this is kind of a new era of tf2.
I mean, the game clearly isn't the same as before, everything is a bit more serious, designed so people focus on playing the objetive instead of messing around. But com servers are still there for those who do want to waste their time.
It's just, idk... It's like the devs has taken another direction after years of releasing silly cosmetics.

Yesterday was the first time ever I enabled scoreboard pings since I didn't really give a damn about the ping of other players since my own ping was visible in the bottom corner of my screen, along with my FPS and interp settings. Now I don't see interp at all, have to tab to see ping, and look in the top right for FPS. Shit's fucking retarded.

Fuck no. I started it up again last week. No one plays anything in MvM except the easiest difficulty of each map and they are terrible. Most waves end in failure with me doing the vast majority of damage and the popular opinion is that heavy is the absolute best class for everything in all situations and no one should ever play sniper completely ignoring the fact that the heavy does less damage than the other damage dealers and is infact below some supports not to mention snipers are completely over powered with the hitman especially on ghost town.
The new match finding server keeps going down.
It is filled with aimbot that also spam chat.
The newer map designs are awful.
They finally recognize that pyro and heavy are badly in need of a rebalance but you have to choose which one gets it.
I mean the game isn't bad but the community is 50% shitters 40% returning players and 10% Assholes that sit in spawn and berate their team instead of playing.
