RNG is used to refer to anything that isn't in a consistent pattern or behaviour.
The Earthbound run is a pretty good example of RNG manipulation, which basically just means that enemies will use a specific attack pattern and stuff like that based on how they move through the game world and menus. Would highly recommend, I think there was one at AGDQ 2016 or SGDQ 2015 I forget.

Trolling aside, this is actually somewhat true. The esper/magic system is introduced way too late in the game for story reasons. The characters are all over the place in terms of their skill set, and most of their skills aren't even that interesting (and most other than a rare few end up getting superceded by magic / equipment anyway). And there's pretty poor use of the large cast of characters introduced.

I have. I grew up playing them. I'm 29 going on 30 soon. I grew up with these games.
They were great at the time but they don't stand up on their own, except when judged through the lens of its time. If you set aside this game came out in 1994 when I was 8, then it's a pretty meh game.
All the Final Fantasies are various degrees of "Ok" now. The modern ones bungle about trying to preserve aspects of the classic games that have worn out long ago and become boring mechanics. The classic ones are FF in the height of its excellence but they're also 20 year old games.
Whenever you hear someone say which one is best, you're hearing their favorite. There's no objective best. But obviously its FF8 becauseI met my first girlfriend because I saw it at her house and brought it up.
