Skyrim had much better gameplay. The two attack types were pretty weak but at least Skyrim tried to work on magic instead of just cutting it down.
All oblivion really had going for it was finding free spells at those lore stones that will never show up again in the series probably.

I think Skyrim is slightly better.
The landscape is more interesting, the characters look a lot better and the combat a bit better (even if creating magic spells is no longer an option).
Yes, the quests in Oblivion were more interesting, but let's face it: 85% of the time spent playing is wandering around and fighting monsters. I'd rather wander around in a better looking setting and have better combat.
Neither game is good. They're vast and shallow and become boring after 5-6 hours when you've tried everything the game has to offer but you still have to spend many more hours to be completely done.
Combat is so fucking boring that the only way to do anything interesting is by being a stealth archers, as you need to aim and stay hidden. And even that gets boring fast.

Both games have good lore and characters, but Skyrim is only good when you play the side quests and do the main quest slowly. The main quest is shit and clearly watered down for modern FPS players. Overall, Oblivion is better because the Skyrim class system doesn't even come close.

Oblivion story, setting, characters, music, and quests were best imo, but anyone that thinks Oblivion's leveling system was good is crazy. It was the worst thing.
