I couldn't beat OS 40 hours into my first DS play through. Probably tried under 120 times. Solaire was dead and I had no humanity left.
So, I called over my friend who had beat DS before. He couldn't beat OS either.
I figured I had fucked my build up because I didn't use a guide, so I started a new character.
Got back to OS in only 5 hours, felt so proud.
Then lost, and lost, and lost.
So I installed a trainer, cheated, turned off said trainer, and acquired the Lordvessel and continued to enjoy the game.
I just wanted to advance so badly, its such a fun game......

lightning resistance ring, hide behind the pillars, use a flame weapon, roll away from all attacks, shield up all the time (use tower shield if you have problems), just take your time and read the attack patterns, pick off ornstien first for an easier 2nd fight, dont try to get more than 1 or 2 hits in at a time unless you know you are safe, just outlast them, remember "bait, retreat, beat, repeat."

When I got Dark Souls I was on break from college. I played the shit out of it until break was over, then had to stop because I didn't have an xbox 360 in my Dorm. I didn't beat the game.
After a few months, I was on break again and so I got to play Dark Souls again. But it had been a while since I had last played, and I decided to make a new character and start over. Then that break ended, and it was back to school. I didn't beat the game.
Then Dark Souls released on PC and I finally had a means of playing it while at college. But, of course, I had to make a new character this time and play the game from the beginning. But for one reason or another I didn't finish that playthrough either.
Long story short, I've played Dark Souls up to around Gravelord Nito and the Duke's archives on 3-4 characters. I know those portions of the game like the back of my hand, but I've never beaten it. I have no excuse.
