Actually the man behind Fortress Craft has commented that he doesn't understand how No Mans Sky has gotten SO POPULAR. He states it's a very bare bones game with almost nothing to do when he played it. He's apparently friends with a few of the Hello Developers and has played the game often
You can probably even talk to DJArcaes or his dev team when he's fixing his Minecraft-look-a-like on Twitch in the early morning EST (for me)
Granted, he said the game is fun and VERY interesting but it's not a game where you sit down and play it for hours and more a game you play for maybe thirty minutes and come back to it in a week because of how little there is to do.

It looked like your typical indie scam initially. A no-name studio with a few mobile games to their name promising a you-can-do-anything type of game. Then their office is flooded once or twice, or their laptops get burgled - the usual shit you'd expect to see. But then for some divine reason sony takes an interest and the devs realize they'll actually have to make the game now. They release terribly little info, taking a page from Peter Molyneux's book of sweet nothings the stuff they do talk about is more open to interpretation than the bible. Then they release "in engine" pre-rendered bullshots. Then they push back the release date. At this point the game is probably starting to actually take shape. A few more delays, some intense last minute hammering. Genuinely interested to see what they've come up with.

It's not multiplayer in a normal sense, you'll be playing the game at the same time others, but because everyone will be spawning at the edge of the galaxy on some random planet the chance of you meeting someone will be rare.
They said they'll make easier for friends to meet after the game launches. The dev said he has a very specific vision for the game and that's what he's going to do first and see how people react.

Was it really? I never got into minecraft. Damn. The only thing that bothers me about No Man's Sky, especially Saun is that he wants to shoehorn this whole no multiplayer. Part of the NMS aspect to me would be the rush of meeting some other random or even trading with them and meeting up with friends to do w/e but all his interviews he has expressed this idea that every player is just gonna team up with others and go around destroying everything.
