I remember playing the first one of these on PS2. It was a great idea, but the implementation wasn't great. Controls were awkward even for the time, and the UI was a mess.
Played the 2nd one a bit, it didn't really improve on the issues with the first one so didn't finish. Then they went to portable and nintendo and shit.
Is there any talk they might bring it back to a normal console in the future? I assume after all these years they've ironed out the control/ui/misc issues that were in the first two games, it so It would be nice to play again.

To be fair everything, save for endgame in 4U, were harder in FU due to mechanic adjustments. That being said, they seemed to slow him down a bit compared to 3U.

I still have an OG 3DS.
Should I upgrade to a N3DS XL for this, or just get a 3DS XL? I've been meaning to make the switch, but I'm really unsure if the N3DS is worth it. Admittedly, the N3DS XL is only about $30 more than the 3DS XL at retail prices, but I haven't checked ebay or anything. Will be trading in my OG 3DS too, and at gamestop that is about $50 cash, $60 in-store credit.
Also, I already have Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii, and I have no intention of playing Hyrule Warriors on the 3DS since I have it on WiiU and hear it is shit for portable.

You can play the other hunting games for PS4. God Eater 2 is coming outside of Japan soon, and Toukiden 2 is coming out soon as well. I don't know if as many people play them as Monster Hunter, but they aren't bad games. Toukiden 2 still hasn't been released anywhere, but it is trying out new stuff as well. It's doing an open world thing.

i really like almost everything else about monster hunter 4, except for some of the lesser details like why the wycoon could just multiply items for the sake of not having a farm since you're supposed to be moving around for the sake of making a "story" for a monster hunter game and getting that shoved down our throats.
the game was great but didnt feel as polished as mh3u though, and the mounting by itself makes it really hard to not think of it as a really cheesy gameplay mechanic that just ruins fights that would otherwise be challenging. they hardly did anything to balance fights around the mounting, either.

Yes. I really enjoyed the demo, it's the core gameplay I love with some twists thrown in. All a monhun game has to do to get my money is have the gameplay down. I've been playing them since MH1, I even bought the ethernet adapter for my ps2 because I loved it so much.

You can clear all the content in the game with star knight yes. I've cleared most of the content and I'm using the monodevil set and haven't honed any weapons. All clown suiting does is take a 15 minute clear to a 12 minute clear or whatever. It doesn't make the impossible possible.

Use the hammer, its much easier with the hammer. After you kill it you can make whatever but for some of the other early monsters like the kut ku i recommend making a sword and board

as was said, you need evade extender to get around. You basically roll everywhere all the time and don't sheathe unless you have to. Jump attack unsheathe/reload is pretty cool though.
You want to be shooting as often as possible in the correct distance. With normal/elemental shots that means pretty damn close. Pierce 2 you want to be a bit further out.
I feel like solo HBG is for people who have started to find MH too easy. If you're willing to put your ass on the line with paper armor and unsheathed greatsword mobility you get rewarded with crazy damage. Although of course there are monsters it completely dismantles for free.
