Story about first Witcher (s). You get to gather materials and a crafting system let's you experiment to make the various potions and crap (not just finding a recipe and making it). When you fight monsters you have to experiment to see what damages what. To make this feel fresh, have some proto-monsters that are slightly different than the 'newer' monsters found in the geralt story-line. As if the monsters somehow developed over time to resist certain types of damage.

Prefer not to have one honestly. Geralt's story is done and finished in a way I feel pretty good about. No need to drag him out again for some ridiculous adventure.
Still, if they were to make one then I'd like to see:

>Smaller world, less points of interest that are just a single treasure chest with a handful of drowners. Reduce the quantity, increase the quality.
>Detailed epilogue. Not just a handful of images for massive decisions. Do like Dragon Age Origins did, have a whole series of text describing every small decision and what happened.

The combat is boring, what you like is the way the levels and encounters are made, the combat itself is so basic and methodical.
Witcher combat isnt bad, it just doesnt have diversity or any kind of change to it that other RPGs have in the form of different classes or weapon types. Think about this for a second, if Souls games were locked so the player could only use a longsword for the entire game and every play through, would you still consider it good combat? It would get extremely repetitive like it did in Witcher games, what the games need is more playstyles, not entirely gameplay.

Remember that part in Witcher 3 where you go with the witch hunters and the Bloody Baron to savehis wife? If Geralt was not there, they would have all been killed. No doubt about it. Maybe killing a few drowners or killing a Griffin in its sleep, but outright fighting fiends and werewolves is a no go for anyone that isn't a witcher.
I'd prefer it if it was a story around all the witchers being wiped out and you're some dude that needs to become a witcher but has no idea how to be one. So he goes out to an abandoned witcher school to learn their secrets which would let you decide what playstyle you want to do by which school you pick and go through your own trial of grasses. Since you're the main character, the trial of grasses will succeed.
And later in the game you'd end up being Uncle Vesmir and training others to become witchers.

I think since Cyberpunk 2077 is going to let you make your own character the Witcher 4 will do the same. One of the main criticisms a lot of people had with the Witcher was that they didn't like playing as Geralt. I love Geralt, but I can see why people might not like that it's not really their own character.
There's precedent for it too. They introduced all the stuff about other Witcher schools, especially the Cat school. I think it'd be cool picking your own school and making your own character.
